SP was always a kinda geeky band to like, but mainstream media mostly treats the 90s music as quality. They aren't a joke band and aren't reported that way by rolling stone, pitchfork, etc. Not that it really matters or anything. But they were definitely not the Nickelback of the 90s, that's fucking ridiculous. The only complaints people have are about Corgan's voice/personality. Literally everyone knows Today/Disarm/Cherub Rock/Bullet/TT/1979/Zero plus many know Landslide, Muzzle, 33, etc. Obviously an arena tour was stupid but they aren't trying it cuz everyone hates SP and no one wants to see them

They might know a few songs but they are rarely impressed in my experience. "Underwhelming" is a word I hear a lot.

Radiohead haven´t really changed their sound in the last 20 years a lot.

Yorke still whines and whispers his sad and depressive vocals over a boring and depressive soundscape.

Tell me, when do you listen to such crap? Alone on a winter day when your girlfriends has fucked another guy? In the bathtub when you hold your dingdong tight in your hands?

Radiohead is for lonely depressive freaks that are crazy about this sad voice and oh so happy music.

i do not say that they are bad musicians, the y are really great, but RADIOHEAD ARE STILL MAKING THE SAME SOUNDSCAPES (more or less) , haven´t evolved really a lot -BUT are still successful

I do´n´t compare RH to SP, it´s another world

well that is definitely different here. SP was 'big' here but mainly among alternative rock fans. I don't think they had an actual hit apart from 1979 and generally speaking, I don't think many people would remember any song apart from that or TT.

yea, Eurolandia used to be much more Brit-heavy, I honestly don't think more than 1 out of 10 people I work with here currently would even recognize 1979, but they sure as hell know a couple of Radiohead songs, no matter what genre they usually enjoy.

Which is to say, good luck selling an arena tour for 2019 in Euro, Bully!

And there are still in SP's homeland even enough boring Radiohead listeners to sell four times the Madison Square Garden, but not enough Sad Machines to sell out one Pumpkins concert.

I should amend this comment to say everyone teenage age to 30s in the 90s. Plus some others because of the popularity of 1979 itself and the TT music video. they were selling arenas in less than 10 mins

I am not going to knock on Radiohead as they obviously are successful. It's not my cup of tea and that's ok.

It just doesn't make sense to compare them to SP in any way. It's not the same type of music. Radiohead is a novelty band. They make songs for a very select group of people. And either you love them or you don't even know much about them. They are not mainstream in anyway. The only similarity they have to SP is that they both came up in the 90s.

If we want to talk about a similar band that blows SP out of the water as far as popularity goes, it starts and ends with Pearl Jam. They have more hits than SP. They sell more tickets than any rock act that originated in the 90s. Everyone knows their music.
