what i find baffling is the immediate assumption that dj's were automatically presenting themselves as artists by default, or even boasting about some sort of enviable technical skill just by saying they're a dj

This is by a wide margin the smartest thing you've ever posted here

I hung out and smoked dope with some DJ's for awhile. Even though it wasn't my type of music (Hip-Hop) for the most part the type of passion these guys had for the art was inspiring

Then one night we were gonna do shrooms with one of their roommates, but I got too drunk to the point of being an unmanageable asshole and we couldn't make it so the dude decided to eat all of our shares of the shrooms along with his which was just a ludicrous amount.

He was out of commission for like 2 weeks and they blamed me, what the fuck

Fucking ANYONE can play the guitar, that's the reason it's such a popular instrument.

People like Fuzzy are why Rock music became lame

It probably takes much more talent to properly DJ than it does to noodle the all of two blues scales you need to know to Rock
I actually have nothing against Disc Jockeys. I find it admirable when someone has a passion for music and a desire of sharing it. It is a talent picking the right kinda music to keep the party going and to make sure people are into the music.

But let's face it: They're not actually creating anything.

Sampling and remixing and splicing together existing songs is creating something new which is something a lot of DJ's do and what I thought for sure he was talking about

Bear in mind guys this all stemmed from the assumption that Sonic Johnny's comment about Moby was not sarcastic, which led to the assumption that Moby is all that SJ knows about electronic music and is therefore in no way an authority on the genre, which led to the assumption that SJ's job as a DJ and every other DJ's job as a DJ is primarily an expression of creativity.

lol splicing together existing songs. DJ's don't even do this by using 2 turntables anymore, they just use a program like cool edit and do a little copy and pasting here and there

I don't think he was being sarcastic. He seems to genuinely think of Moby as being some cornerstone, landmark artist that someone new to the genre would HAVE to check out.

you know how to play a guitar, you can't write songs, you can't create anything unique or original

I half expected you to backpedal and be like "naw man I was just mocking you fuckers right back" but you're even stupider than that.

You've only heard his music from Play onwards, I'm guessing? I mean I get that you're an ignorant moron who wouldn't know the difference between Venetian snares and the prodigy, but his self titled album and Early Underground are both hugely influential in the spheres of techno and ambient house. He also pioneered a lot of the stylistic rudiments of downtempo music with his score work, to say nothing of having worked with/for Michael Jackson, David Bowie and Brian Eno.

Yet again fucking aggressively reinforcing your complete willingness to ramble on about shit that you have no clue about like you're some kind of authority. You talk about cool edit and used the term "scratch pad" to refer to a turntable. Just acknowledge that you've got no idea and tap the fuck out, you dumb cunt.

Not saying he's a top tier producer or anything like that, but the reason I put him next to The Orb in a post responding to Elph discovering Happy Monday's remixes is that it's pretty rudimentary stuff for fans of early electronica. I was mocking Elph a little but you turned te gun on yourself instantaneously.

I like some of Moby's more ambient stuff. I have some of his music on an ambient mix cd I made. I also like his cover of That's When I Reach For My Revolver. Better than the original actually.
