it had its moments, but it was definitely not "downhill from here" lol. this was the fucking nadir, though maybe that had more to do with the "era" than the music, what with the departure of Jimmy & all the other nonsense going on around this time

That "Teargarden Theme" wasn't so bad, and I like the guitar solo in "A Song for a Son."

That is all.

Tom Tom is still one of the best songs of SP2

Fellowship is pretty good as far as goofy Corgan synth shit goes

Freak had a cool gtr sound

&, as we've all come to agree upon in the passing years, "Widow Wake" is a crowning jewel in the Corgan discography

I liked "Tom Tom" in its more moody live form, but the recorded version feels too upbeat and boring.

I don't mind the verses of "The Fellowship," but the chorus is garbage. Also, the electronic noodling at the beginning sounds like it's supposed to be for a totally different song. Like he just tacked it on there for the sake it.

I dislike everything about "Freak," and I refuse to acknowledge its alternate title of "Freak USA" because it doesn't deserve to be considered a successor of any kind to the vastly superior "Geek USA."

This was the last SP album that I listened to religiously, trying to "get it," because I was still in denial that Corgan hasn't got it anymore.

I listened to Oceania a few times, and haven't bought a new SP album since.

you're on a Smashing Pumpkins message board, i don't think listening to some of the actual newer music released under the name is all that mindblowing

I don't think I've ever even listened to this beyond snippets when I was 16 to complain. Here we go.

Teargarden Theme
4/10
I like the harpsichord. Reminds me of Garson's ITIAG during Machina. This is slower and more plodding and does [weird music theory stuff] so it sounds moody and eastern or whatever. Ooh the cut to the organ is nice. Overall feels aimless, like Corgan just noodling around with whatever

A Song for a Son
7/10
Love the maritime theme, love the reverb on his voice and acoustic. Guitar solo is great. The drums and cymbals [I'm just hearing a very thin wash of a crash on the left channel?] sound fucking weird; it's still upsetting hearing Mike throw in those crazy syncopated tom fills just because. I know he's 19 shh. 'sailed without a maaaap' ending comes off flat imo

Astral Planes
6/10
oh jesus god. The lyrics and vocal melody are straight fucking trash. Instrumentally I like it, especially if I were to hear it live and the guitars had more...space? The faraway light section is pretty killer. So is the crazy ending.

Widow Wake My Mind
7/10
The oohs are fucking fucking shit just like in Knights of Malta. Stop doing this gross fucking vocalizing shit jesus christ.
And just like in Knights, it's a nice listen underneath. Bass groove in the verse is great. Drums are good too

A Stitch in Time
6/10
I like the lyrics and acoustic but there's too much shit going on in the back that doesn't add much

The Fellowship
6.5/10
First 30 seconds are fucking hideous but I like the drum entrance. Rest of song is pretty nice.

Freak
Really like the lead guitar. Vocals are grating.

I’m not enjoying any of these enough to keep doing this. that's all you need to know

A Stitch in Time is great but the version on YouTube with the dude adding drums is way better

Also Tom Tom is the best Teargarden track. Love that one

Wait, that's wrong.

I actually purchased Elegies to a Monument because it was in the discount bin at HMV and I thought, "what the hell."

It's still in its shrink wrap.

Great attempt but you stopped too soon. "Lightening Strikes" has a good bit in it and Owata is a song too.

i really wanted to dig in to some of you acting like it's incredulous that anyone here would have actually dared to listen to the Teargarden stuff when it was coming out, but then I came to my senses & remembered this isn't a Pumpkins board, merely an extended thread about the band on a Two Gallants forum in a Mr. Big message board

carry on
