Where's Solara
The people over at KROQ Los Angeles were saying they heard it last night. No one has that shit? Common let's get a lemon party going.

Billy should go to Cuba to get new inspirations for becoming successful again.
Worked already well for Paul Simon in South Africa and Brazil. At least he might have been on Malta... |

I'm a musician first and foremost but do take an interest in the business side of things. For, I have a natural aptitude for business, along with everything else. I correctly identified that physical music is inherently less convenient than a stream or download, and hence less desirable. One solution to this, which I've always been a vocal advocate for, is to turn the CD or record into a desirable, unique, collectable package.
An example of this is the retailer specific variant SKUs we put out for Zeitgeist, which was very exciting and gave listeners a lot of opportunities for travel, for human contact and which presented a unique "**** game" of finding all of variations and for putting together their own, complete or personalized version of the album. Unfortunately this didn't resonate with people and I'm still not sure why. A few years later I put out the Teargarden EP boxsets which included some beautiful artwork and very unique, stunning, hand designed Obelisks. Again, these didn't resonate with people and I'd see people online saying "What the hell am I supposed to do with this?" or likening them to "buttplugs". The fan reaction really pissed me off and contributed to the decision to scrap the whole Teargarden project. Which is a tragedy as I had the next couple EPs worth of songs finished and they were absolutely beautiful, life affirming songs that are just sitting in a can at home. Since then I've come to understand the reaction somewhat - not everyone is as spiritually mature and aware as I am. For what use does the average knuckle dragger have for a beautiful, imitation stone Obelisk? And so this time around, with our forthcoming EPs I've tried to get down to the true essence of "average imbecile" both with the music and with the physical package to give fans exactly what they want. Friends suggested things such as to package the CDs with t-shirts, dvds, stickers or high quality booklets of photos, lyrics and musings. Some suggested CDs or download codes for additional unreleased material. Good ideas, but uncreative, predictable. For hasn't The Smashing Pumpkins always been about creativity and unpredictability? And then I asked myself the question "In the years since Teargarden, have people caught up with me?", are we now living in more spiritual times where people are ready to have their minds opened. is the world now ready for Obelisks? I need to believe so, which is why I'm so excited to share that I will be announcing the inclusion of new, beautiful Obelisks in the forthcoming EPs in the coming weeks. Full details will be disclosed soon but right now I can share that the EPs will be released at a $70 price point and each ******* a beautiful imitation stone Obelisk along with other unique, very special items. |

4/10, didn't sound like Corgan. needs more incoherent flowery verbiage and words that haven't been used since 1920.

It's in the garbage bin. Rick Rubin "accidentally" deleted it.

Here's how it went, Rick basically got really, really sober about 1 week ago and decided to play the new SP album with fresh ears. Well, safe to say - 20 seconds in and there were already 14 groaning "lovers" and a very boring riff that had no substance so he just deleted the whole album right on the spot.

I'm actually excited about this release. If a new single with James and Jimmy isn't any good, then it's pretty much the nails in the coffin as far as Corgan is concerned.

Billy said Solara was one of the grunge songs he was working on. Some might scoff at that, but after all the weak acoustic shit, I'm actually excited to hear what this sounds like.

>>> March 28, 2014 "Pretty full on day, with Howard picking at random which of the 26 STAR category songs to dive into. SOLARA was first, which went from a typical 90’s-type rocker to something that felt like it belonged." Apr 12, 2014 "Now what?” I said out loud. Back through the COUGARS we fell. I circled round ‘SOLARA.’ “Too grunge though,” I offered, a negative buzzword in these parts. “Better if it was straight, or more psych.” Singing the melody I came up with an opening figure reminiscent of ‘Heaven and Hell’ Sabbath (Go Tony). Sketched out a basic 2-part guitar demo, and with some digi-magik made the beat that made it a rocka-rolla (Go Priest). Funny what a riff can do to a spine. So ‘SOLARA’ is back with the STARS. W.P.C." September 20, 2014 "So, work: SOLARA was the hammer, and I was the sickle. And leaping into the deep waters of what is a no-brainer, gimme of a grunge song we cast off it's shell and went for the sun-worshipper who, in standing beneath the sun, feels awe, or boredom, or both; his thirst for travel unbound, he'd like to see the stars or, better yet, know them. Not sure if I'll get what I'm looking for here, or just have to write a new one, but the riff's minor to major universal magnetism is worth mining out. Only a million and One miles to go… W.P.C." September 24, 2014 "Today's work is to tackle SOLARA, once and for all; strumming downward on the mystical, pyramidic D." November 4, 2014 "SOLARA is back, just to prove it could. But TOODLE-LOO was a flameout, modern, anthemic, one-hook chorus aside. (insert Howard frown) " |
