Default Ghost Stories is Coldplay's King of Limbs

If Parachutes was their The Bends then Ghost Stories is kind of their King Of Limbs. Aside from Sky Full OF Stars it's a mixture of ambient, electronica and soft acoustic driven stuff that reminds you of their early work.

I feel like every post you've ever made up til now has been a lead up to the inevitable clusterfuck this thread will become.

King of Limbs actually had a couple of good songs on it. So far only half-decent GS track I've heard is "Midnight" but that's not really a song, just Chris talking into a vocoder, and the B-side "Ghost Story" is alright. "A Sky Full of Stars" would have been alright if it was produced as a proper song and not a over-hyped, poppy techno radio track.

Also, they are trying to rant on about how great Jonas Åkerlund is, which anyone who had seen the "Try, Try, Try" video clip would already know. I suspect not many Coldplay listeners would have seen this though, its subject matter might be a little too edgy for them.

they are pretty similar, except ghost stories isnt coldplay's worst album. but also coldplay hasnt (yet) put out a live version of ghost stories that's a million times better and reworked completely

Magic, Another's Arms, and O are my favorite tracks. O and Another's Arms are as good as anything from A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

The other bonus track / b side "All Your Friends" is great too. Very different from "Ghost Story." more downtempo sounding.

*digs out Coldplay collection*

"O"... I feel bored listening to this - vis a vis: "Flock of birds, hovering above, just a flock of birds, that's how you look at love..." isn't this just a repeat of: "The birds they sang, at break of day, start again I hear them say..."? "O" is way too close to "Up With the Birds" from Mylo Xyloto, they are repeating an idea that has been done before (something which Coldplay seem to do a lot, I reckon "Clocks", "Viva la Vida" and "A Sky Full of Stars" are all way too similar). Stylistically they are almost the same closing track. Chris wants to write a final track to a record, he just writes about birds. Zzzzzz....

"Another's Arms" - yeah, I get it. But surely part of us would like to see a blurry YouTube video of Chris getting into a punch-on in the street with the guy who supposedly stole Gwyneth off him than him writing yet another wallowing, self-pity song about it? Where's the angst?

"Magic" - catchy, yes. Seems to be kind of predictably forgettable though. Glad it gave Jonas the opportunity to make another video, which is numbingly PG-rated lol. I prefer "Ink", it's more of a window into the mind of the writer.

"All Your Friends" - seems ambient, not the same angst as in "Ghost Story" though.

All good music thrives on tension. There was a lot of tension went into writing A Rush of Blood to the Head, politics, romantic tension, etc. Then Chris kind of won everything very quickly after that, he got the girl, family, the millions of dollars and fame all very quickly and then X&Y ended up being the 'what the heck is this all about' record. The band themselves acknowledged that they had a lack of direction pre-Viva la Vida that was cured by getting in a new producer and taking a different approach to writing, in the commentary to Live 2012. Like I'm saying about Billy and the "maybe no-more if this record flops" Pumpkins at the moment, there's no shame in taking some time off, doing other things in life apart from music, and coming back to your career with a new outlook and making a big impact then. Except that Parlophone are probably always on at Chris to write something, write anything, because of all the £££s that they see from having one of the best selling bands in the world on their books.

Chris Martin looks like a fucking dick in that "... Stars" video, marching down the street as a one-man band, grinning inanely at people. Could you imagine Thom Yorke doing that?

I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61!
