D’Arcy gives a fuck about us the fans though. I’m worried she’s the only one of the four who does at this point though. Billy sure doesn’t.

And yeah the reason I want them to get into the HOF so bad is to basically force Billy to play with D’Arcy again lol.

They couldn’t possibly induct anyone besides the four original members anyways. Who else was last of anything that was worry of induction to the HOF? Plus those 4 were together for a while as far as bands go. They experienced their young adult life together.

I don’t think they’ll get in for a while though sadly. What they did in the 90s is very underrated. I don’t know how anyone could listen to Pearl Jam and (prime) Smashing Pumpkins and come away thinking Pearl Jam was even close, let alone equal or actually better. And yet Pearl Jam got in first. Which I think is blasphemy.

pearl jam always were and always will be a much bigger band worldwide. smashing pumkins never really broke through the way pearl jam did. and thats why billy doesn't do proper euro tour. pearl jam still fills stadiums here still, while sp in their prime (1996) had like 7k crowd in a 30k arena. sp is just not that big of a band, even though i do agree they are a much better band.

Pearl Jam had a pretty good run of big albums, even "No Code" went to #1. Pretty much all their 90s albums (Ten - Yield) were good, and the first three were very big sellers too. Plus they had more of a cultural impact, with the whole grunge / Seattle / vs Nirvana axis. They managed to sustain it, and that longetivity probably prompted their inclusion in the HOF.

SP were always outsiders in that scene, they were never grunge anyway. They made a big alternative album with SD (much more alternative than, say, Ten) which led to bigger success with MCIS. But that was it really. Adore was a "failure". And they split not long after. The SP2 albums have had virtually no cultural impact. Even PJ / Eddie Vedder were on TV / playing the Oscars in the 2000s.

I've seen PJ 93 times so they are my joint favourite band with Pumpkins. I still don't know where I would go with a time machine, Pumpkins in 96 or PJ in like 92/93 or 2000. Both just ridiculous powerful forces in their times.

Funnily enough I wore a Smashing Pumpkins shirt to one of the shows last month at Fenway Park in Boston, I had so many people comment "Woaw Smashing Pumpkins, you don't see that name around" etc. It's a shame because TSP for ten years were just nuts, even the Adore 98 tour was incredible with all that percussion. Very few people can shred like Billy or even get anywhere near Jim's level.

Where in Europe are you talking about? In thr UK SP totally sold out six arenas and then added Brixton Academy when Wembley sold out in 96, which also sold out.

There are bands in the HOF that are not as big as SP. You just have to be marginally big enough to meet that part of their overall criteria. I think it comes down to overall perception. I would bet that if the band never came back at all... i.e. 2000 was their last show... then they would have been first ballot HOFers. 1990 to 2000 is that good and I don't know if anyone can disagree.

I never thought Pearl Jam was overrated. They are a great band. Smashing Pumpkins was better though. I wouldn't then say they were underrated at that time. It's just their style of music.. a lot of the deep cuts that made them great were not cut out for general audiences that need instant superficial gratification. That's fine if they could only fill small arenas in Europe instead of stadiums.

What pisses me off though is how people can lose respect for original SP because of the new music. Whatever... atleast Billy got to play with Pink Floyd during their induction.

Billy is really gonna lose his shit if Radiohead gets in.

In all truth though, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a fucking joke. Smashing Pumpkins totally should have been a first-year induction....along with Radiohead, Soundgarden, Pixies, and tons of other bands.

It's weird, because outside of the US the RnR HoF is a bafflingly indulgent concept that no-one really takes seriously. Radiohead have said they find the whole thing hilarious, and I think that's a fairly standard British view (waves).

Apropos of nothing, I never really get Pearl Jam even at their peak. Vedder's voice was always too generic American rock for me. I like weird voices. I think over here SP was probably the bigger band, at least in 1996-2000. I think they probably fell behind later.

They should totally set up a Sad Machines shrine for that idol. Then Clay could go there and self-flagellate and offer it sweet meats and incense and shit.

That's okay, you can just tell Billy New Order and Depeche Mode and Joy Division aren't in the HOF either.

You picked the biggest Shiny show and the biggest NIN show lmao

Just saw them play at 6K venue last night
It was 1000x the show Shiny was

Also, you aren’t taking into account the cost of production and advertising that likely came out of Billy’s pocket considering he’s on a no name record label

NIN did zero advertising and sold tix at face or above
