I really liked the 2007 lineup. I saw em live and it was 1 of the best shows I've ever seen. Everyone left the venue in awe about what they had just witnessed. I saw the band years later in Seattle with Byrne and Nicole and it was just so flat and sterile... Like night and day.

Damnit. Normally I don't care about this argument with them splitting up, the original members are the real smashing pumpkins, whatever. I like Jeff, he's been there since 2007 and has earned the right to be thought of as one of the pumpkins, in my book.

But that video posted of James Iha To Who Knows Where kind of hit me. The familiar sound is there. There is a huge part of the pumpkins right there. He's still out there. There must be another timeline going on where they didn't split it, and they're still playing together. We just found ourselves in the fucked up version.

There is a sound that we're just never going to get again from the Pumpkins without James Iha.

Full shameful disclosure: I pretty much kinda learned to play bass watching that very show (i'd taped it)...that was like 1996. My first year of playing was pretty much picking up Cure or Green Day basslines by ear (i learned every single bassline form 1039 to Nimrod...i still remember some). Evne if i don't do pop punk at all, I can still hear some Mike Dirnt in my playing style ....for better or worse... (for the record, very underrated bassist at least on the 90s stuff).
