i just don't think people making grade-school insults on the internet vs people who are actually bigoted and want to actively stop/hurt people for their orientation or lifestyle shouldn't be treated the same way, it kind of dillutes the impact of trying to stamp out actual hate when the only thing you're really offended by is a word, regardless of context

Mals is right on with this. Hearing someone use homophobic slurs in real life in a natural conversation is something to speak out about, but getting all worked up when a guy is clearly just pushing buttons is a waste of time, and gives the "alt-right" more ammunition.
