This is the most cliche, aging rock band, watered-down performance I've ever seen. I'm embarrassed to be a Pumpkins fan.

Billy, you're 52 years old, bro. Time to ditch the My Chemical Romance makeup.

It sounds like they were literally trying to ape the vibe of this hit song. Same wonky guitar solo, same annoying keyboard loop, same "ironic" gospel singers... Definitely what Billy was going for with Knights of Malta.

Knights of Malta was a total attempt at sounding current. Granted, the live version is a little more abstract, but that doesn't change what the song is.

I seem to remember you comparing it to AFI and Imagine Dragons and not this band

Even this one sounds only slightly like it

++++ thank you. It's a good tune, and I'm putting my faith in them by buying into the new band. By doing that I'm allowing for the happiness I get seeing them do new stuff. Why would I not want that? It's better than bitching and being disappointed

My god this comparison is so laughable. Like backing vocals of this style have never existed in music before this song.

It’s an attempt at ripping off Pink Floyd you fucking moron.

Jesus Christ you pull this shit out of your ass. Ironic gospel singers? Good god. What even.

There isn’t a single hit on current radio that sounds like this. It’s dad rock for the 90’s generation. Wtf else are we to expect from a mid 90’s popular band well into their 50’s? I’m not expecting the next ground breaking thing but if what they’re doing is enjoyable, I’m happy. And this is good. They’re not the only band on earth.

Christ it’s a dumb tv performance to promote a tour. Fuck off.

So every time billy writes a song with a mellotron in it, is he ripping off Sufjan Stevens? Every time he plays a guitar solo, is he ripping off.. uh.. does anyone play guitar solos right now?!?

Stop hijacking these threads with your thought diarrhea. Enough!!

There's a ton of similarities. It's the general vibe that "radio rock bands" are going for these days. Even Fall Out Boy are cranking out crud like this these days.

Lol never compared em to AFI, I said Awol Nation. But all these bands sorta sound the same to me, it's that current modern rock sound that everyone is doing.

There's a lot more in common with that song than just the gospel singers, did you even listen to the complete song? Iha even aped that solo

Oh Heavens, I'm so sorry guys, it appears Paranoid and T&T must be right. It appears Knights of Malta must be a fantastic song after all.

Yeah hate to be the bearer of bad news here but James iha and whoever plays the solo on this shit song are not the first guitarists to play minor pentatonic licks over a minor key chord progression.

Omg seriously though, are you for real here?

I dunno, tbh I've heard similar songs on the radio over the past few years .The whole bluesy gospel dirge style that Hozier, Imagine Dragons, etc. have done. I think it was an attempt by him at writing a song that would fit in on the current climate of radio and it failed.

Also how can a song that didn’t even get released as a single fail as a radio hit? C’mon now.
