If you compare where Katy Perry is after three albums to where Madonna was after three albums, who's catalog do you prefer?

I'm not including Katy Perry's first album because that wasn't mainstream pop music.

I grew up thinking no one could ever outdo Madonna. But, at this point in her career, Katy Perry has Madonna beat by miles in my opinion. This isn't even a contest.

The interesting thing will be to see how they compare from this point on. I think everyone can agree that Madonna's best work came later on.

I was thinking young Katy Perry v. young Madonna. Katy Perry is more attractive to me. I agree with ILP, 80s fashion and makeup and stuff really does not do it for me. Madonna was (is still actually) good looking, I just think Katy Perry is hotter.

I thought Katy passed up Madonna some time ago in terms of the number of quality songs. Madonna had plenty of less than stellar songs as album fillers. I can't name one bad song on any of Katy's albums. The difference could just be in the times they were relevant.

I tend to agree, but when Madonna emulated Marilyn Monroe in the Material Girl video, she more than pulled it off. Stylistically it was out of its time in the 80's because it was just a throwback to the 50's big dance numbers.

Katy Perry's one of the few pop-stars whom I actually like sometimes, but I still think Madonna's earlier work was better.

Madonna all the way. She has some sick 80s riffs and loops in those first three albums. You could even mine the crappers for something.

Katy Perry's cool and everything, but the production on her songs is kinda drab. There's not that much to go back for, and you can't dance to half of them. Would not listen again.

Madonna hit some artistic heights with some of the songs on Ray of Light and back on Like a Prayer, kind of whack as a person though. I gotta say she really brought it in her most recent super bowl performance tho
