Red face Jimmy Chamberlin is back with YAMAHA DRUMS for upcoming tour

https://www.facebook.com/YamahaDrums...616587/?type=3

Quote:
Yamaha Drums is proud to welcome Jimmy Chamberlin of The Smashing Pumpkins to our legendary family of Artists.
On the upcoming “Shiny and Oh So Bright” tour, Jimmy will be playing amaha Absolute Hybrid Maple as his choice of instruments. Regarding this decision, Jimmy sent us this along today:
“Yamaha has always been part of my sound. Yamaha drums are the sound on my biggest records and the accompaniment to my biggest and proudest musical moments. They are the way that I hear drums. The versatility of Yamaha drums continues to be unmatched by any other brand. I’ve tried other drums and have come to the conclusion that, although many drums do a few things well, only Yamaha does all types of music great. These days, the scope of the music that I play is such that I need an instrument that can take me from small jazz club to arena to
festival. Yamaha is that instrument. I couldn’t be happier to be back!“

#yamahadrums #sp2018
Crikey. Yamaha to DW to Sakae and now back to Yamaha. I thought for sure he was gonna stick with Sakae, seeing as though they made the shells for Yamaha.

Wonder if he'll now go back to Zildjian...

Wait, what? No kidding!
One kit, one manufacturer...one drummer...one man to rule them all.

I played on a Yamaha kit in college...it was mint...
Everything about it was great (I don't remember the model), but the snare was the best...lots of precision and recoil...
That's not to say you can't have great snare drums from other manufacturers, etc etc etc.

Yeah I wonder why he switched from Sakae...it seems like the entire band is just saying 'everything since 2000 is bullshit'. I wonder if he'll bring back the 'JC' badge reso head

He's playing Istanbul right now. They always seemed more for jazz stuff to me

My high school band had a Yamaha kit in a practice room. Stage customs, I think. Sounded amazing

Sakae Artist: Jimmy Chamberlin

http://sakaedrums.com/en/artists/jim...rlin/jimmy.jpg

In his own words...
They are without a doubt, the finest instruments that I have ever played. Unbelievable tone and focused attack and just beautifully even across the board. When I played this kit I felt like I had come home to where I belong. So much of this sound is a part of me. Everything about the way that I hear drums is contained in these instruments.

The drums are unbelievable - I have my main set up in my studio at home and I am playing the smaller “bop” kit with my quartet. The drums are perfect. They tune up like a marimba - the notes so true and pure. And the frequencies are very usable and cut through the music in the exact place where drums should sit. They are not competing with the sax or piano. Honestly - these drums are special - unlike any other - all of my other kits are subordinate to these drums. The Birch are so easy to play and they are so responsive and articulate that they immediately make me a better composer. I am finding new patterns and combinations everyday based on the sheer musicality of the kit.

I can’t express in words - how much joy I get from playing these drums. I am releasing some new music later this summer and you will hear for yourself!

JIMMY 2011, switching to DW:
"After 18 years at Yamaha I have decided to move on. I feel that DW is the company that can take me, and my evolution as an artist, to the next level. They are truly an amazing company that are at the forefront of innovation and are making huge leaps in the advancement of the instrument. I feel like I have found a home with like minded people who are just as obsessed with drums as I am! I wish everyone at Yamaha the best and thank all of you for 18 great years."

I suspect sakae may not have been able to provide the equipment needed for a tour of this size. If a tom cracks it's unlikely they will be able to find a dealer with the correct sizes needed nearby enough to rewrap and setup the day of a show. Using a brand with larger distribution, arrangements can be made to pick one up somewhere enroute to their next destination.

JC needs to shut the fuck up and go back to doing drugs, giving the band a hard time and nailing his drum parts when demanded to.

That sounds reasonable.

But wouldn't he just carry backup drums? --> http://themachinesomehow.blogspot.co...-zwan-kit.html

It's about money. Yamaha would be paying him to exclusively use and promote their drums.

Sure. And I'm sure he will. That all boils down to artist support and I doubt sakae is able to provide it at the level he needs for the tour

Maybe. Drum companies actually don't pay many artists though.

This. Gear and support (inc. promo) for free. There isn't a "sponsorship" paycheck - Doesn't work like that.

Yamaha Drums:
Artists receive drums and support, but NO Yamaha Artist worldwide receives money to play our drums. That is a policy. Best wishes

I was gonna tweet him about going back to playing a yellow yamaha kit for the tour but chickened out!

There's something about Jimmy playing Sakae that sounded off.

I always loved his purple drums @ Metro 93. Might as well tweet him. He doesn't always reply but when he does it's cool

I don't think they both had any problems. I remember that even after Billy announced Zwan was over, Jimmy and Sweeney were still saying they were gonna continue the band.

Maybe he should take better care of his drums and not hit them so hard?
