Default Given the recent happenings: Any chance NOW of a full fledged reunion?

All i think we need is Jeff to do what the new guys in GnR did and say "you guys are thinking of doing a reunion? then let me save you the trouble- I QUIT!"

Now, I like Jeff and think he's been a serviceable touring member of the group... BUT... All of the stuff he's been involved with recording wise has been... not so good Al. (If you must keep him around outta loyalty: have him be the new keyboard player)

Now that all the members are alive and turning 50 and reminiscing about their glory days I think theres a real chance that this happens. As we saw with James returning to the stage it clearly appeared to be a cathartic experience for Billy... What better way to perhaps ring in the 25th anniversary of Siamese Dream than do a major tour playing whatever set you like with the band that you made it in?

OF COURSE the pay day for this would be astronomical and qualm any doubts or concerns that these rockers may have.

You only live once. Why the hell not do it? They'll know that a lottery jackpot is waiting for them so it would give them even more incentive and determination to get together and actually make a great album again. Have the awesome new music ready, prepare for the comeback and voila:

THE RETURN OF SMASHING PUMPKINS! NEW AWESOME ALBUM! FIRST WORLD WIDE TOUR IN OVER 20 YEARS!HEADLINING ALL MAJOR FESTIVALS!

why the hell not?

retain Jeff as a third guitarist. Hear classic Pumpkins tracks live with more guitars than ever before.

That actually would be really cool if Jeff was a 'lower chair' than James. No solos or leads or any of that shit

I don't see a reunited SP1 tour being that much more lucrative than any of the recent tours. Maybe if Billy had gone away for years and never reformed the band. Their legend hasn't really grown in the same way as, say, Led Zeppelin. People consider 90's bands nostalgia trips. Pumpkins are just "that rat in a cage band" or "that 1979 band" to the general public. He's had Jimmy for the past two tours and nobody really gave a shit anyway. I think having James and D'arcy there too is not really going to do that much more for ticket sales.

nah, fuck that... fuck that shit hard. Very few bands can make it work sonically live with 3 guitarists... Let alone SP with Billy's cranked up vocals.

That idea would be a shit-show and it's totally unnecessary. Any missing atmospherics can be provided by Jeff on the keyboards or (preferably) someone who's actual steeze is the keyboards/piano.

You do have a good point.

Billy really did do an incredible job of dragging the legacy through the mud for countless tour cycles... Same shit Axl did to kill any huge momentum of Duff and Slash rejoining.

BUT... I think if it's the original 4 and theres a really solid album put together that's executed with major label help and preferably produced by Butch Vig that is released just prior to the world reunion that shit would come up aces.

The fact is they have to do it right. It can't be just another tour promoting some album made with hired hands that now features JAMES on the road... That just doesn't create enough hype. And I'm sure Billy would cry to the media that "the 3/4ths of the original band reunited and people still didn't care"

It's all in the execution. And no matter how rugged Darcy looks or whatever, it's a must that she's there.

Sure, it doesn't exactly matter if Darcy records much... Hell, don't record with her it's a problem. Do what KISS did and have her on 1 song or something so you can promote it as a full reunion album and just have her playing the songs on the road.

Billy dragged the name through the mud in a disgusting way with that shit he pulled off with Teargarden, Byrne and Nicole with all of those lovey-dovey, the world is fantastic songs.

His only tactic for a bounceback is a reunion done RIGHT.

As always, Iron Maiden demonstrates the ultimate example. Just have three guitar players when someone comes back.

He's tried every possible way to become relevant again except reuniting the original band. That is the only left thing to do at this point. The last resort. It will happen eventually. I think James and Darcy would be on board. They probably miss it a little bit.

If that happened, people would be there for the old songs only. And we know Billy won't give them that.

Besides, it's 2016, guys. Jeff is playing with the band for 10 years now. That's basically the same amount of time D'arcy played with them too.

Blaming Jeff for Billy's lack of inspiration won't help whatsoever.

It annoys me how many people say that like it matters

The Pumpkins in that time have made 0 songs that have affected me even as much as fucking 'New Wave A to G' has
