basically it goes: 90s > 00s > 80s. I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One is definitely the best starting point, then get stuff like Painful, Electro-Pura and Fakebook. And then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out and I Am Not Afraid of You and Will Beat Your Ass are also great

i dunno how it was reviewed but I think it's their least-immediate album and for that reason alone shouldn't be the first thing anyone listens to

I only know I Can Hear the Heart, Electro, Painful, and Beat your ass, they all have good stuff.

I Can Hear is a pretty iconic album. It's a lot like Siamese Dream in some ways and gives the same sense of having completed a long, meaningful, emotional journey when it's over. Start here. It's also pretty accessible and you will like it the first time you hear it

The others I mentioned are good but I don't think they quite reach the same bar I Can Hear does. They can be pretty strange and abrasive at times as well.

I've actually been meaning to listen to more of their stuff for several years, so if anyone wanted to rank their albums or something so I know what to get next...

also, is Nothing Turned Itself really their best reviewed album? Or do you mean Pitchfork's favorite?

I hardly ever read music reviews but sometimes I read reviews of albums I already enjoy. :\

how are you supposed to know what something sounds like and that you might be interested in it

i mean the evaluation really means nothing, but i'm always interested in the description of the sound

Here to Fall might be my favorite song by them but Popular Songs as a whole is pretty mediocre.

I think "I Can Hear The Heart" is my favorite album by them.

sure its fun to read album reviews (some people make a real artform out of it) but isn't it easier to watch a youtube video or listen to a music file?

or are you asking me how else are you supposed to find out about new bands?

I find I often disagree with sonic descriptions and evaluations given by critics

one song can be deceptive, and you have to narrow shit down

New album is out.
So far I listened to it only one time from start to finish, I'd say it's good, but not great.

They're playing tonight at Amoeba/Sunset Bvld.

Ya, was coming in here to ask what you thought of the new one. Haven't listened yet, but I loved Beat Yer Ass, so I'm tempted to grab this one too.

Comparable at all? Better or Weaker?

i'm not going to say it is better than beat your ass but i also really really like beat your ass, so take that for what it's worth. standouts for me on fade were stupid things, i'll be around, and before they run. the first third of the record hasn't done much for me, but i expect the album will grow on me. one thing about it- it sounds fantastic.
