I just hope he won't "shatter us to dust with metal" again like on Zeitgeist. I haven't yet fully recovered.

he's going to make some serious bank on this, if it goes well.

it's like the zeitgeist model, without the middle man. he'll sell the songs via 11 eps, plus some digital downloads, then the final box set which he promises the collectors will be different. basically, selling the same product under a bunch of different color packages.. and he still has a devoted enough fan base who will go to great lengths to get the complete set.. buying everything. Now he has the middle man out of the way, so he's in charge of his expenses and what he profits. Think and artist would REALLY give away a record for free? that's part of their loss now with how music is distributed today.. he's just putting the control of it's sharing in his own hands.

so for the casual fans who were going to find a way to get it for free anyway are still getting it for free. the hardcore fans will still shell out the money for the various copies (eps, box set), just like they did for the multiple zeitgeists. there is really nothing ground breaking about this at all.

but pitchfork bit on this one, saying that this is more promising than zeit, even though they have yet to hear a single note.

hopefully he can back up this 'groundbreaking' statement with some actual groundbreaking music.

You think Corgan has enough money-paying fans who'll shell out for the EPs to make this profitable, when they have a big honkin free option right there? Eh, maybe. Seems a bit more convoluted to make $ as opposed to releasing an album independently.

ugly, like i said, there are those who will get it for free anyway and those who will pay for the physical copy. just like with zeitgeist (which went gold, correct? and can't say this wasn't due to the montes, davins, and HUs out there whom bought every single version available).

how many here downloaded zeitgeist and there by got it for free?

also note corgan promised highest possible quality with the purchase of the eps.. meaning the free download will most likely be lower quality mp3s. but i might be wrong about that point.

yeah, or I'm hoping flac, which would be awesome.

obviously as soon as the EPs are for sale, someone is going to rip them to netphoria, but if he's really making this artsy a la MCIS, I can see a whole bunch of fans buying at least the first EP to see if it's worth it.

Buying all 11? Hard to say.

1) Cool, I like the title. It has an artsy yet obtuse classic Pumpkins ring to it.

2) I think Billy has finally responded with something SP fans can appreciate in terms of intentions...these plans actually sound on-target and fairly in line with what many SP fans have been wanting in the first place. (Well, minus the FLAC nazis...). Maximum songs, minimum bullshit. Even the announcement sounds pretty BS-free.

3) I was about to give up on SP...but now I'll admit my interest is sufficiently piqued.

4) It still sucks having Bill as the only original member of SP (cough Jimmy cough...just ain't right...)...considering in other aspects this seems like it might be a return to form in line with music of the classic band (I don't know, just a feeling I get about the advertised direction.)

5) Tarots...um, yeah.

It will be groundbreaking when he croaks on song 12 and Maynard James Keenan is called in to finish his work.

Since there's 44 songs total there's bound to be a few good ones in there. For awhile there bill was stuck in a pattern of releasing a shitty album, saying it's ahead of it's time and misunderstood, then releasing an even shittier album and pointing back saying I told you so.

What's good is that there are lots of songs, so statistically speaking there will be 10 really good songs.

Though it's sad that the recordings will be low-quality mp3's.

He will abandon the project halfway through though.

I am also full of cautious optimism for the following reasons:

- a concept album, even if based around something dumb like Tarot cards, ensures some cohesion despite the space between song release, and amount of songs
- the art possibilities for this are very good
- the album sounds like classic Corgan narcissism, and narcissists do their best work on themselves
- Corgan is bucking the IP-restricted formats and will be demonstrating the pottential for high profits in rejecting all of this anti-sharing, anti-piracy junk. This is definitely a worthy cause if ever there was one.

For me, whether the music is any good or not is a fairly low consideration as all of these things are excellent.

It's going to be filled with those shitty acoustic songs he just played and cheesy "hard rockers" like the trip.

and I'll bet he'll go OOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!! on at least three songs, gaywad believes in tarot cards.

According to HU, Billy phoned in to Dave Navarro's radio show and said "The Trip" will be the first single released.

Great, my least favorite song from the SITS tour. Here we go again. "You raised my hopes and dashed them quite expertly sir. Bravo!"

Freak, or A Stitch In Time would be better first releases, but who cares really. Im sure they'll be one of the other 43 songs. I think The Trip has potential to be a good song in the studio. It just cant be as bare bones as the live version.

Yeah, I don't think "The Trip" was anyone's favorite... but HU says that they insinuated that would be the first single, so it is not clear. Has someone listened to the interview?

Also, weren't the songs played by Spirits in the Sky the so-so songs? Why are they starting with one of those?
