AFI just played their set (we’re at the Dallas show) and they were great. We really enjoyed them. There were some really hardcore fans and they were really into it and he paid lots of attention to them (pointing/waving), which I loved. They only played about 22 minutes though and the venue wasn’t close to being filled yet (still isn’t - waiting on Noel to go on).

I specifically remember earlier this year posting in a different thread about this tour that I (coincidentally) was going through an AFI nostalgia binge on youtube, fast forward to today and I've pretty much collected every album/ep/side project etc. Would have loved to have seen them on this SP tour, in fact I would have cut Noel out all together for a longer set.

Also, Davey's been screaming his guts out on stage since the early 90's yet his vocals today sound just as good as they ever have. Take note Mr Corgan.

Default Dallas Show thoughts

Venue stuff: The crowd turnout was great. It looked a lot more near capacity than the 2018 tour in the AAC. I like that amphitheater overall but the prices were crazy expensive. Case in point: 1 cup of mac & cheese, $9. Beer, $13-$15.

The concert itself was pretty good. I'm a longtime fan who's normally tired of the usual hits but I found myself digging the singles (Disarm, Cherub Rock, 1979) more than the deeper cuts. Superchrist and G.L.O.W. showed they could still rock, even if Billy can't scream. For example, he didn't even try to sing the best part of BWBW.

TAFH was badass. Cherub Rock closed out the set in power and beauty. They didn't pretend to have the encore, instead playing all the songs straight through.

When the crowd wasn't too enthused about clapping at one point, James stepped in, making a comment about cheering for the Dallas Cowboys football. It was a bit cringey but hey, who doesn't love James?

I completely agree with a prior poster on here that it really feels like the band owns the material and they're evolving it, rather than playing in a Billy Cover Band. Jeff showed off his chops, especially on the cover of Fire & Rain.

I totally forgot to go to this concert. They came to my city and left and I never even thought about it.

SAD!

it's physically impossible for James to be cringy. If you found it cringy, you weren't enough levels of irony deep

Show was pretty solid, I have to say. Lots of meaty guitar workouts. Wonderful stage props and lights.

The crowd was pretty massive. It's good to see Billy/James/Jimmy have "landed on their feet" so to speak. (Jimmy was MONSTROUS btw).

I would've liked to go, but no shows were close enough besides Tinley Park (still a 5 hour drive). Not suuuuuper bummed considering the short, hit filled setlist. Would've liked to hear superchrist, GLOW, blue skies, and TAFH live though, especially after seeing them last year.

It was a great show, it got me all excited about the band again. Their energy was intense.

i was at the show and know which part he was talking about - the main "cringeworthy" thing was how little the people reacted to that comment, almost like they took it seriously

The visuals for this tour are MILES better than any of the video work from last summer. Did Linda do these big crazy circus things too?

i thought those visuals were pretty good, if a bit heavy on the "june" motif

Yes, Linda and Billy worked on both tours to get the visuals together. The puppitos are Linda's design.

Possibly the first recording of this tour to be uploaded that uses external microphones instead of a device's internals.

Alright, there's no doubt about it. Jim definitely got a hair-transplant. And damn, Billy got thin again. Good for him. Kristen Burns looks as beautiful as ever.

Cool pics

I live in a pretty small town in Australia. But I swear I saw a middle aged man wearing a Zeitgeist tee a few years ago. His was red though.
