I haven't listened to this in years but it was one of my favourite records of the 2000s. As time has worn on i've become a little suss on Yoni and the band never even came close to recapturing the magic of this one or Elephant Eyelash again, but i'm very fond of Alopecia. One of my mates had the words "Sometimes I claim to know a guy but I can't tell you what his hands look like" incorporated into his back tatt.

Tonight I hear Alopecia played in it's entirety. Feeling pretty happy about this. Really nice sounding non-profit venue that's been operated by volunteers since opening in 1989. The building was first opened as a movie theater in 1948.

Tonight is my turn to hear Alopecia played in its entirety. I will be seeing them in a high school auditorium turned music venue that was originally built in 1924 and reopened as a venue in 2015. There's a lot of places like this in Portland. The rest of the high school is now office and retail space. Kind of a cool way to preserve old disused buildings I think

A WHY? show is extremely cathartic for me, especially when you're talking about Alopecia being played from start to finish plus a 4 song encore. Wish I could catch a second show this tour (usually go to Mpls + Chicago or Mpls + somewhere else) but I leave town for nearly a week next week and just can't afford it right now.

Lala Lala also made a new fan who I had not heard of prior to the show. They are from Chicago and put out a new album at the end of September. Nice interview here.

Per Yoni, Alopecia turned 12 today. This album helped me out of a pretty dark place back then and will always be one of my favorites.

Excited to let you all know that I made some music inspired by Ian Urbina's incredibly important journalistic book, The Outlaw Ocean. I was so honored to be tapped for this massive multi-disciplinary project (articles, book, documentary, music, podcast).

We are hoping it will bring awareness to the many problematic and often clandestine human activities that take place in, and on, our oceans. From poaching, to detrimental oil drilling, to sea slavery and all other manner of malfeasance, it’s time the world paid attention and kept tabs on the bad actors and what they’ve been up to out at sea far from regulators’ eyes.

Since we are all quarantined up for a while, why not read the book. In addition to its global importance, it also just so happens to be a really compelling and enjoyable read.

My EP, Ten Voices, comes out today for purchase and on all streaming platforms. The Outlaw Ocean is available at https://www.theoutlawoceanmusic.com

Thanks y’all. Stay at home. Stay safe. Stay sane. I love you!
-Yoni Wolf
