Billy made this album devoid of any lyrical depth for the ADD generation. Knowing that he did this intentionally and focused mainly on the hooks allows me to give him a pass, as ridiculous as that all sounds. I expect much more lyrical exploration on the next album.

I would love for the next album to be better, but I don't think it will be better than Oceania or Zeitgeist. Which could be ok depending on how the arrange things.

he'd need to rework the lyrics then. he said something that all the songs they choose from were intended for one album, and as much as I love Burnt Orange-Black - in terms of lyrics it's in the same drawer as MTAE.

It also kind of bugs me how we are just supposed to give his cynicism a pass because he is doing it for some greater good. That's some means justify the ends shit, especially when the means aren't even getting him to the ends, as shown by 20k or whatever sales in the first week. If you're going to go all lowest common denominator, at least do it well.

I am I guess disappointed in MTAE. But I do think it is good insofar as it is catchy, has some actual good songs, and most importantly doesn't have anything really terrible on it like 1. ridiculous vocals or 2. mike byrne. But there is nothing great about it at all.

I think the 20k sales thing is more about promotion than anything. Also lack of a hit single. Oceania was prooted much more yet that didn't have a great single either.

I don't know about that. There seems to have been a lot more promo for MTAE so far, especially overseas. He didn't do nearly as many interviews then as he is doing now. Adding in Mark and Brad also drummed up some publicity, plus Tommy L. They also got some of the major music publications involved with releasing each song. I've also seen a lot more advertising for MTAE than I saw for Oceania.

I haven't paid attention to Oceania promo until they toured with it, but MTAE sure gets a lot. besides all the interviews and radio spots, radio live shows, magazine album ads - wall sized posters in subway stations in Europe, US airports, full program.
but it's only the first week and December, it might sell better in a couple of weeks?

Yeah its on there. Oash's release had a massive release on the homescreen for it. This one had Billy's face on the new release playlist (basically nothing).
