It wasn't the best album, but it was pretty damn fantastic, imo.

Would be interesting.
The O-board did a blind test using 5 clips of songs with Jimmy, Mike, or Matt Walker drumming on them; the Mike-lovers genuinely couldn't tell the difference.

Same goes for billy. Its pretty well known that most casual music listeners focus on vocals and melodies. Then maybe guitars because its rock music Drums are just there and arent really a highlight of the music.

Those are the kinds of people billy has been trying to win as fans. I can see why he chose someone like mike. Not that mike was horrible* but that bc doesnt sufficiently know enough about drumming to not be impressed by a couple of tricks and some fast playing.

His thought process was probably "wow this is good enough for me and the fans dont really care about the drums anyway they come to see me"

*he is though

Also this tyson meade recording is proof that great drumming doesnt make a great album alone.

And the mike haters could automatically tell the difference between the mike and jimmy tracks. Night and day, friends.

I've been a white stripes fangirl since I was 13 and I think Mike's drumming is unlistenable.

I'm sure if billy wanted to make punk music he could make Mike's drumming work

Mike sounds better than usual to me in that audition video. But I feel like billy just saw himself in Mike, the baby faced nerd who likes prog rock, from a lame suburb (I'm from the same suburb but I wanna clarify Beaverton is the best* suburb of Portland) and thought it'd be interesting to try it out.

I get the impression Billy has been trying to operate more on intuition and experimentation but I kinda wish he would think things through a little better. I really just want to see him paired with some top ace veterans at this point. He could benefit from being the most clueless person in the room for a while

Hearing Jimmy outside of SP is weird. His style is so Pumpkins, it's like a piece of SP being thrown into another band.
Missing Jimmy more than ever.

What would a band with James and Jimmy sound like? Do they hate eachother?

I don't think anyone is saying Mike is the worst drummer of all time, just that he is not good enough to be in SP

The White Stripes don't lose anything by having Meg as the drummer.

They can't hate each other if they have the same name

lol, I recall pretty much everyone noticing the difference. Classic Juliana revisionist history.

It's also a dumb experiment too. I mean, I bet theres little 10 second snippets out there where Mike sounds good. But even so, it's still pretty obvious. The kid could never get different tones out of his snare. I don't think he knew how to hold his drum sticks correctly, his sound was so clunky.

What the hell are you talking about, he was making a joke about sharing old screen shots.

I wasn't talking about that.

You said that nobody could tell the difference between JC, Byrne or Walker. When in reality, pretty much every credible poster knew right away.

No doubt. Credible was probably the wrong term. Pretty much anyone who wasn't a complete knucklehead had no problems identifying which clips were Byrne.

I believe the only time some people were confused was whether it was Walker or Jimmy... Which is understandable when you're only using a selective 5 second clip.

Any credible/non-casual fan would have been able to pick up other cues as well as the drums to inform their decision.

Just saying.
