I think that's a very good video by any standard.

I'm too uninterested to do this but will someone look up the budgets for these two videos?

My guess is that SP had the bigger budget which would say it all IMHO.
Being Beige probably had the bigger budget, but probably not by a lot. Billy gave Justin Coloma $50k to do both GLOW and SuperChrist music vids. Dude's a cheap bastard with his money.

I think the problem is, Billy gives his "friends" (re: sycophants) work, and they aren't really qualified to be taking on the work.

the starkest difference between the two is that the leads/flourishes in Speed of Love are interesting and whatever Jeff's doing in Beige is typically asinine and boring.

Gemini is better than anything on MTAE.

And I'm no fan of James, just being real about it. I'm sure Billy had more expensive studios, more expensive producers, fucking Tommy Lee, etc, and he still can't put out a good record. Shit is calculated and devoid of any actual emotion. James isn't doing anything new, but at least it seems genuine and there's actual songwriting going on. Not circus piano and "luvah you're strange."

"Speed of Love" is a great song. Look to the Sky is surprisingly a good album, Iha really hit a home run with the album.

"Being Beige" and Monuments... not so much.

So I guess this is the most recent James thread and I wanted to complain

So I'm (trying to) listen to the last Metro show. And when James is singing Go, these ignorant cunts are just having a chat during the fucking song. Christ. It's the last four hours this band will ever exist, shut the fuck up for a bit.

Sorry, I only got here like two years ago and I never got a chance to complain about that properly

Oh fuck this crowd is annoying. Even during To Sheila...

Is there any sort of brutal medieval torture involving the vocal cords? Do vocal cords have nerves? I hope so

Being Shit is the worse single in Billy's career.

Well said. He's the cool, good looking dude who wrote comparatively little material, but left his mark never the less. Had a low key solo career full of good and respectable but sorta average material. Didn't come across as a dick in interviews unlike Lennon (sometimes) and Corgan (usually).

Is it fair to ******* Jeff's non SP work, like the theme to Wild N Krazy Kidz, into this discussion?

Heres my favorite Iha song

Definitely a more moving love song than something like Anti-Hero.

Corgan really should pair up with James again. James added that charming atmospheric touch that has been gone from all of the post-reunion releases.

LICD is seriously better than anything Billy has done post Zwan

The production is so nice and ...clean sounding

I'm not a fan of Being Beige. I don't like the instrumentals and I think the song sort of hits a wall and doesn't really go anywhere. Vocals sound generic. Generally speaking the song is boring to listen to, almost sounds incomplete to my ears as does much of the album. I've said it before and I'll say it again this album could have kicked ass if they just put more time into it. For example, the lack of Solos on songs like "one and All" and "Tiberius", although good songs, were buzz kills without the killer solos they could of had.

Ugh...

If I had a gun to the head and had to choose, it'd be Being Beige. I don't think much of the song, but Iha's solo work is pretty awful for me. I like his work when he's with a perfect circle, but he's dreadfully boring when he's front and center.

somewhat related - his jokes on the APC live CD at the red rock, were better than his solo work.
