Yeah I learned that when I started playing with people. It was pretty disappointing.

I find that my friends who are aspiring rappers are usually much smarter than my friends that can shred on guitar. It's more clever and literary music

I ended up crying in the bathroom at my friend's house tonight after getting into an argument about asylum seekers entering Australia, and how I feel called by Jesus to advocate for asylum seekers and help them seek refuge in Australia. I ended up crying because I was arguing with another Christian (a Catholic) who started saying that Jesus calls us to be responsible for ourselves and to be continually bettering ourselves, and when I asked for scriptural evidence to back that up and she had none, one of the atheists (the brother of the hostess - my family had been invited by the hostess) yelled at me that's enough of your bible crap, you're a guest here, you should stop talking about this, we're just trying to have a relaxing Christmas. This was after him making statements about Aboriginal Australians being rapists and alcoholics and degenerates. After a while I excused myself from the table and cried in the bathroom until the host and her husband came and hugged me and asked me to come out. I just felt so shitty and unwelcome but i didn't want to just storm out with my husband and kids, because Jesus calls us to reconcile with those who hate us or hold us in contempt. So I stayed and in the end it all blew over and we had a few laughs. So I'm glad I stayed. The guy's daughter came and hugged me and asked me what was wrong, at one stage. She was so sweet.
I am trying to work out if I am ok with the fact that my friend's family now hates me and thinks I'm a clueless, self righteous Christian. And if I'm ok with the fact that they will probably all think of me as the rude friend who ruined Christmas 2014 by not keeping her opinion of their opinions to herself. It would be so much easier just not to care. |
