I wish Guitar Hero/Rockband were still economically viable so we could get more of these.
Only ones available were 1979, BWBW, Cherub Rock, GLOW, Siva, Everlasting Gaze, Today, and Zero. Nothing really complex/notable besides this one. I'd kill for Geek USA. |

One of my favourite performances of his. Those Ride bell switch-ups towards the end are cash money. Good find.

Fantastic.
It reminds me of the 2000 WXRT interview where Jimmy goes "bet you didn't know I could play the disco beat!". And Jim or the other guy Greg says something like "oh, you're not happy because this song doesn't show all your chops!". |

what's amazing to me is how technically 'inconsistent' he sounds when isolated from the rest of the band. he speeds up, slows down, places hits before and after the beat, but it's still so great to listen to. especially now that everything is digitally spliced and rearranged and quantized and aligned to grid and the end result doesn't sound human at all anymore.
what's really amazing is how well billy and him lock in together and produce some tight and great sounding rhythm sections, cause they're both playing 'inaccurately', but in precisely the same way. the stuff that makes great bands right there |

Butch Vig: "But he had a "feel thing" with Jimmy. He really understood Jimmy's drumming. Jimmy had this push/pull thing. He wasn't like a metronomic drummer, you know. He wasn't like a perfect 4/4 click track drummer - I think we used a click track on one or two songs on Siamese Dream. It moves around a lot, and Billy really understood Jimmy's playing. It was like a thick fence, almost, but he was really able to lock in with Jimmy, which is not always easy to do when you have to come back and overdub, when you're not playing live with someone." "He [Jimmy Chamberlin] and Billy Corgan really have a special dynamic...how they play. It's very hypnotic and I think that was the secret to the Pumpkins sound...it had this kind of sexy swagger in a way...very hypnotic...and...the only way I can describe it is they had this push pull thing and they were locked into each other..." |

yeah i think i read that before, in that gearslutz thread about SD.
it's crazy to think billy recorded so many perfectly aligned guitars over something so wild. regarding newer recordings, i'm pretty sure all of mike's drums were treated in a much more modern fashion, like i said before - edited to death, quantized, and compressed like motherfuckers without much room\ambient mics, if at all. just sounds like individual hits popping in and out of the sonic soundscape. there are many reasons for why billy's music sucks and has sucked for years, but this is one of the major ones, right next to the vocal issues |

Amen. The vocal issues are really quite something. He's the one singer I think sounded way better before he took vocal lessons. I didn't know about it at the time, but I really noticed on the Machina tour, I didn't like the change. And some of his vocal mannerisms have become unbearable since...
