You guys need to outlaw campaign donations or at least force disclosure of you ever want to get back to functioning democracy.

So i'm discussing this with my lady... Sanders isn't going to get the nod because he won't win against a republican candidate, yeah? He seems cool but my understanding was that he's too far left to be viable and is just running to try and draw Hillary to the left on her platform to avoid splitting the vote up?

i could sit here and wax hypothetical about a gore presidency but that's largely beside the point. the world is generally a much worse place today because 15 years ago "it doesn't really matter anyway"

The only way to do this is to alter the makeup of the Supreme Court and the only way to do that is to elect democrats basically forever.

Or I guess we could elect a liberal congress but that would take redrawing districts (and I dunno, abolishing the senate) which can't happen until we have liberals in control of state governments after a census.

The situation is not ideal

I was going to make a little succinct post about redistricting in years ending with 0, but i went to fact check and man what a complicated system that's so (obviously) susceptible to corruption.

well maybe, i don't really feel like republicans in national races could win at all at this stage but saying SOCIALISM over and over again got half the country to hate "obamacare" without understanding it at all...there was a study that showed that when people said obamacare or the affordable care act people were like THUMBS DOWN but then when you isolated the stuff in the bill everyone was THUMBS UP it's amazing how fucking dumb everyone seems to be

i will say that i think bernie is running to put these ideas into voters heads, he knows hillary is a system candidate who will play left if she needs to but not feel at all indebted to delivering on any of it. i don't think he's foolish enough to think that she's going to suddenly start talking about narrowing the wage gap and stuff

Call me crazy, but I think the DNC heavily pushed Bernie into running for purposes of A/B testing. She's going to develop her platform plank by plank as Bernie's idea's are either embraced or shunned by the public. Lookin forward to 16-17 more months of this from her:

Now that my cynicism has set in, yeah, Hillary's getting the nomination no matter what she says, which means that she can essentially skip the primary. She's playing to the general voters already.

I don't know how you can say she's playing to general voters already when basically every policy position she has staked out so far mirrors Bernie's.

She's talking like more of a lefty than anyone expected. What makes you say she's playing to the general election audience already?

"miniature abortion flags for everyone!"

the "everyone" shows she's playing the general voters already. i find that quite obvious.

I agree, and that's why I'm totally cool with Hillary Clinton as president even though i am more conservative than even Clarence Thomas.

I would love for you to try to articulate why. And I'm serious because one of us will probably take the time to point out why another candidate would be better given what you like about him.

Whoever is elected, even Sanders, likely won't be able to enact the lefty policies we want outside of maybe foreign policy (which obviously matters but still). There is still going to be a center right congress.

The problem isn't presidential candidates as much as it is the system. imo.

He's the candidate that Republicans deserve

Now I may not be a big time city lawyer, I don't have lots of book learnin or a smart phone or a map of the earth or know how to use a radio, but I know there's got to be something in the Constitution that allows us to dissolve Congress and establish a left-wing monarch. And I for one am willing to be that monarch. I will rule you all fairly, with an iron fist, and won't back down to our republican oppressors.
