Despite the shitty quality, the mix itself sounds better than the official one. The vocals and guitar solos are more clear.

Never heard this mix before. The solos sound clearer and really show what a beast Bill was on the guitar back then. Or is it just that shitty flange effect drowning everything else out?

To answer your question, as far as I know there is no other source for this mix of Kitty Kat.

Where was it sequenced on the album? I think it would have sounded really good between "Disarm" and "Soma."

I think it could have taken Quiet's place, but then that leaves Quiet without any other good spot.

There is no other copy I'm aware of.

The source of this is a CD given to me back in 1996 by a great guy named Jason Petrait from Seattle. He may be known to some of you as a taper (he's responsible for the Jan 97 soundchecks, among other things).

Jason told me it was from a promo tape for SD. I've never found or otherwise seen a version of the SD promo with this song. (I had my own pre-release promo copy in 1993, and it didn't have this track). The phasing is present on the original CD given to me-- what we have is the only known copy of the song, AFAIK.

After Soma, before Geek.

I dunno.. the way Soma fades out gently and Geek fades in, they were meant to be together.

You do realize that those who were brought up with the cassette would have no idea what you are talking about, as Soma is the epic closing to Side One and Geek USA would be remembered as the bombastic start to Side Two.

No, not until you mentioned it.

A fade out of side one and fade in to side two is still a nice.. thing.

Dude, there is NO artful fade in when there are a few seconds of silence after Soma, a few more seconds as you go manually turn the tape over, and then a few seconds later and out of the silence is DUUNDUNRRDRRRRRRNDRRRRRNDRRRN.

To me, Side One and Side Two each have their own distinct character. Side two is more...eclectic.

Soma gets quieter and quieter as it ends and Geek gets louder and louder as it starts. I don't know what else to tell you.

you don't fuck with this. it's a perfect side A end, side B start.

I'm not sure what era you're from, but when I got my 1st CD player in 1990 I was kinda late in the game - everyone else I hung out with already had one. By the time this album came out in 1993 - bands weren't organizing tracks by "end of side 1, start of side 2". Despite still being sold in stores - cassettes were already in the back seat to CD's and bands were sequencing tracks to be ran 1 - 13.
