looking for a tape recorder and/or tape 4-track
i know shit like is probably gonna be expensive wherever i find it, but i really want to get one of these for making nice lo-fi demos and stuff. nothing beats just doing a good take playing straight into a tape recorder and instantly having a decent-sounding rough demo to play back, imo. regarding the 4-track, the same thing applies but i'm looking for something pretty old school that is just simple as possible to use without any fancy stuff. i'm not interested in additional features like in-built drum machines or fx libraries, just something that is extremely easy to record on straight to tape and do a basic mix. imagine if fisher-price made 4-tracks. something like that.
now am i just dreaming here or is there actually anything like that available that someone can recommend to me. thx. |

Yeah, it's a real fair price too. Which is good because most people that use it and myself play with it for a few months and then it just sits in the corner.

meaning what, that you just can't be bothered to record for a while or that its not a very good piece of equipment?

Oh no, it's good for exactly what it is and what you're looking for, it's just that, after a while either you wanna move up from it or just get bored once you're out of ideas. But if you have some stuff right now you wanna get down and plan to continue with it, go for it.

great, i will, thanks. of course i have more sophisticated or full-band stuff that needs a proper studio but this will be ideal for just acoustic demos and stuff.

Don't expect much from it. Honestly you can get a better sound just using Audacity (free software) and the line-in on your computer. Its actually easier to work with Audacity too compared to those 4-tracks. I have a larger Yamaha which was $450 and its really completely useless now that I have a computer.

i have a pretty lay understanding of music technology and i'm irrationally sceptical about digital recording. plus i like the hands-on feel and lo-fi sound of something like this. basically, if its good enough for corgan then its good enough for me.

with respect to sylvia, do not buy that piece of shit. i've used them, and you might as well be using a walkman with a record button.
get a tascam 424 portastudio mkII http://www.harmony-central.com/Newp/...Tascam/424.gif they go on ebay for between $100-$150, which is probably what you'd wind up paying for a new MF-P01. god i feel like a fucking nerd |
