Default Audio Software Geek (lite) Help Needed

Anybody got an idea for some good (free preferably?) software that can convert FLAC to Apple Lossless? So many of the software options out there are seemingly free, but just aren't, or don't work, or do some stupid trial :30 seconds of a song only or whatever.

I am still married to my stupid iTunes Library - and after you've sunk in 142,141 hours of time into assembling/organizing/labeling it, there's just no stopping.

Thanks, amigos.

So why do you need it in ALAC? To play on an iPhone or something?

Also why are you worried so much about it being free? If you’ve really invested that much time, surely you can pay a few bucks?

VLC could probably do this fairly easily as well - with the added bonus of being a great media player

Interesting - have and love VLC, but haven't ever considered using it as a converter. Will dig around on that one and the other options. Thanks, gang.

Free ain't necessarily a must, but seems like something that free software could do... not that big of a cheapskate. (I once gave to Wikipedia, and now they email me everytime there's a pledge drive which inevitably guilts me into it)

But, yeah - decided to rip all of my CDs into lossless a few years back and went with Apple Lossless as the format, which was maybe a bad idea. But I can easily toss loads of them onto my iPhone and play them through the shitty free earbuds that came with it, or bluetooth it to speaker that I got at the dollar store, you know - hifi audiophile type shit.

this is the equivalent of a dad in the 80s making tape dubs of all his records

Very true. It's sad when you know what you're doing is sad, even while you're doing it.

BUT-

Have you ever listened to an audience recorded 1992 SP show converted from DAT to flac converted to ALAC, meticulously adding album artwork to the files then ran 'em thru your Sonos home stereo? Next level, man.
