Oh, I finally watched McMillion$ now that HBO is offering free stuff. I heard about the crime a long time ago in really broad terms, like "Hey, did you know basically no one legitimately won a big prize from the Monopoly game for like ten years?" Cool to finally get the details. One of the winners pronounces the name of the restaurant "Mikedonald's" and it's so strangely endearing that I think I have to start doing it, too.

Red face

I feel as though… a great weight… has been lifted from… me? The country? Hell, maybe the world?

A savior from the past has risen up to lead us through our darkest hour. She is fierce, she teaches us to be strong and to get friends out of locked refrigerators, and yes, she is the one we've all been praying and begging to return to us all these years. My friends, be not afraid, for all will be well.

The Case Against Adnan Syed: This was cool. The title made me think it was gonna be "he's guilty and here's why" but it's more like "this is why what the prosecution presented was all fucked up." Been forever since I listened to Serial but I feel like this brings up a lot of new stuff.

Babylon Berlin. I've been watching this over the past few weeks and enjoying it. Trying to watch a few episodes each week and avoid binging. So good. Maybe my favorite TV series in the past year. Also helping me to remember a bit of German, since I've not spoken it in decades

Ozark. Season 3 was good. Mostly more of the same from season 2 & 3. Laura Linney is amazing and Julia Garner deserves her own series. Jason Bateman is infuriating and I want to punch him in the dick.

The Good Fight: a new season premiered earlier this month with an episode that showed an alternate reality where Hillary became president, Me Too never happened, Harvey Weinstein was never put on trial, and the all consuming scandal in the media was STILL Hillary's emails. I like this show a lot but I'm angry they sidelined and wrote off the show the only queer woman, especially for a series that's centered on a female response to the Trump era.

Tales from the Loop: I like this one. Like a melancholy version of an 80s Spielberg movie except with no happy endings

Kinda? It seemed to be confusing just for the sake of being confusing... but there were some good moments. I liked the whole Shogun World stuff.

Spoilers for currently running program
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
I predict the final shot of Better Call Saul will be Jimmy going home after his first meeting with Walt and Jesse, and Kim will be there with some Chinese takeout on the table or something.

Actually that's the end to the second to last episode. The last episode will be Jimmy in Nebraska going back to Albuquerque for Kim.

Recently watched Kidding, seasons 1 and 2 with Jim Carrey

really, really loved it. excellent stuff. and cannot imagine anyone considering a third season, there is no need, they concluded it wonderfully

just watched After Life season 2

similarly, can't imagine a season 3, partly because that's just how ricky gervais seems to prefer to operate. he creates these really compelling settings with interesting and unique characters, says what he wants to say, and moves on.

i found this one gentler and more redemptive than the first one. have a few things to say about the end, if anyone's seen it and wants to discuss.

do you seriously think our fellow board members are ever going to forgive us if we continue making such a mockery of the forms & discussions held here at the official Baldlordian consulate?

it's about as likely as your father forgiving me for his 2nd ruptured asshole

highlight to read, don't highlight to avoid spoilers

so the very final scene when he is going for the sleeping pills, i found it jarring and very moving. in a sense, it seemed out of the blue that he would want to kill himself at this point, having made so much progress compared to where he had been. it was a really powerful scene for me because it really resonated. sometimes, no matter how much you've done to outrun it, how much you've done to redeem yourself or move beyond the worst times in your life, sometimes the overwhelming desire to kill yourself returns. out of nowhere, with violent suddenness. and in that moment, even the beloved dog who has saved him before, who was enough to stop him before, was suddenly not enough. that for me was really a strong moment, and to get a bit personal here, scares me because i can not say for a fact that never will there be a day where that desire might overpower me. sometime it might just be too much, and all of the reasoning and justifications, and desires to live that make sense will not be enough.

i'm very glad that the nurse knocked on his door and that was enough in that moment for him. but for me the key was that he was at that point even after making such progress.

i dunno, i just couldn't really explain that to my wife without upsetting her needlessly, and so i felt like i needed to describe it to someone. she was like "that was a powerful scene and a good ending" and i said "yeah" and walked into the bathroom so i could wipe away some tears that she hopefully didn't see. i guess mostly i am curious if anyone else had a similar reaction at all

and to lighten things up a bit, i watched the inbetweeners on recommendation. enjoyable for what it is. then i found white gold, which i enjoyed a bit more, as it was more about life as adults and not teenagers

both pretty fun though

cool. I recommend watching the finale, but not before seeing the ones before that, in the order that they came out. if you for some reason were to stop at the 11th episode, I'd recommend watching the finale too.

TV peaked with Big Brother Brazil this year. This is it, all the other shows can wrap it up.
