If all there was of billy's music was what we have between 2001 and 2014, would you have ever started listening?

Would you even care?

I like his solo album, american gothic, oceania.

But without adore, don't know if I would care.

Zwan was pretty kickass, so I'd probably get into it. I don't know how, though. It wouldn't be as popular as golden era SP.

I'd be really pissed the band ended so quickly.

We might hate SP7 less now if there wasn't a SD/MCIS to compare to. That'd probably be a good thing.

I'd dig some of the Zwan songs and "Tarantula" but I would never have gotten as obsessed. One of the selling point of Smashing Pumpkins to me was that the music was consistently excellent (at best) to good (at worst).

The only song from the first run of Smashing Pumpkins I don't like is "In My Body."

If all I knew of SP was 2001-present then SP could be Switchfoot for all I care.

And even more of their best songs that they play live wouldn't go on their albums.

I would not care at all. Zwan alone would not be enough to move me in.
I would not even read any forum related to the band even.

I might be a fan for Zwan/solo... maybe... but not enough to post on a message board or listen more than I listen to most bands that are good but not great.

Most likely I never would have heard of any of it and not missed it.

I like his solo album and there's really nothing else I know that sounds like it. I like that Zwan song Riverview. I like a couple Zeitgeist songs.

If SP were Zeitgeist I would change the radio station when they poped up for sure.

That beginning... I'd love to get an instrumental version of it.

Those songs are great. But of course there is the problem of them never being released.

Sunkissed is my favorite reunion sp song. He could have sang it a little better though.

I would have been into "The Future Embrace" because I like this type of sound, and maybe Zwan, but I'd probably listen to it as one of a zillion other bands. I paid extra attention to Zwan because I was glad that Billy and Jimmy were back so quickly, and with worthwhile material when I didn't expect much. There was a whole context.

Opinions can differ so much from person to person. I happen to think that's one of the best songs on Machina II. Great atmosphere, reminds me of early Cure.

post-2001 stuff isn't bad, just really spotty.

TFE is one of my favorite albums... the last one where he didn't give a fuck (in a good way)

its a weird album that sounds nothing like siamese dream. that alone set it up for "failure"

i think critics were more lukewarm to it, i don't think it was panned nearly as hard as zeitgeist which pretty much everyone hates the fuck out of except fuzzyroses

its kinda sorta a throwback to the Adore era sound.. but more new wavey and shoegazy

and i think it's the last album before he started bringing his blood curdling aging vocals so upfront

fuck, just terrible. Zeitgeist had some pretty decent song-writing and structures, it was just destroyed by Corgans vocals and the vocal production.

I actually thought that the B0lly chorus worked nicely during this track:

To me, this is just a song that sounds really great cranked up super loud, just one that you can vibe with, and it has a really nice build-up to it. A grossly underrated Z track IMO

I mean, the song goes on in a super mellow vibe, and then picks up with some blistering Corgan guitar with that trademarked tone and then ends off in some awesome J-Macis like melodic shredding.

Fantastic way to end the album
