yea only the 90s are long gone, and so is that audience segment. hyping Alex Jones for years didn't exactly help to keep these people interested. at this point I am not sure if it wouldn't actually be a good match, fan-wise. (I have personally never known anyone who would listen to Nickelback, so I would be curious to meet some specimen.)

sad machines meets reddit bros, I mean, fits them both.

The only thing I agree with Alex Jones on is the statement that all politics are basically bought and venal. Not only in the US, but as a standardized condition of all countries. But I digress.

Corgan isn't exactly an intellectual himself, is he? He likes to play one, at least in the digital realm. All his fucking riddles and amalgamations of 19th-century wordings on Instagram and then he can't even type properly when texting D'arcy. I guess she wasn't worth all those fancy words.

yeah Corgan does like to play intellectual. When I was 15 I totally bought that he was this super smart guy making great art because he is so discerning and in touch with everything. Problem is that anyone who has been to a semester of higher education can easily see what a phony he is

When I was a kid I remember the goo goo dolls guy talking about why he named his song "iris" and he said "if Billy corgan can pretend to be a genius by calling his songs luna or whatever I figure I can call this song iris" (paraphrased). As a corgan loving teen I hated reznik for that. Now, older and wiser, I am sympathetic to his point.

Wrong... "Everyone" doesn't profess to hate Nickelback, only the vocal people who are serious about being music fans.

The brilliant thing about Nickelback is that they're very safe and it's the kind of music that soccer moms pick up at Walmart and hum along to in the minivan... They're essentially the favorite band for casual music fans. And even casual music fans like to indulge in a "rock and roll" spectacle every now and again.

I suppose a lot of these fans are the same ones singing along to 1979 in 2018 though... And really, a lot of SP singles are formulaic radio-driven cuts... Stand Inside Your Love, Perfect, Try,Try, Try... These aren't very challenging pieces of music.

Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as
A poor man stealing
Tired of living like a blind man
I'm sick of sight without
A sense of feeling
And this is how you remind me

This is how you remind me
Of what I really am
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am

It's not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
For handing you
A heart worth breaking
And I've been wrong
I've been down
Into the bottom of every bottle
These five words in my head
Scream
Are we having fun yet?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no no

It's not like you didn't know that
I said I love you and
I swear I still do
And it must have been so bad
Cause living with him must have
Damn near killed you

And this is how you remind me
Of what I really am

Nickelback generally has more women at their shows than guys... Which is a total oddity in the world of "rock music"... But thanks for trying to spin it oddly.

Good Heavens, that writing style really is reminiscent of a lot of the SP.2-SP.4 material! No wonder Billy praises his songwriting so much.

Not true, I talk to squares about music, just general stuff like "who's your favorite band" and you'd be shocked how much Nickelback comes up glowingly... At least out here in Canada where I assume they're bigger.

Still, I'm willing to bet that Kroeger has at least a song or 2 where the main hook revolves around the phrase "Come on (and...)!"

A quick google search reveals that Nickelback has a song called "I'd Come For You"...

That's apparently one of Chad Kroegers favorite go-to songwriting plays, the sexual double entendres

and yes, it must be canada. nickelback is the butt of every music joke around here. alt rock radio doesn't even play them at all.

They're not played on alt-rock radio here either... Just the Jack FM type stations.

And you know what I meant by "squares"... Just your run of the mill woman or guy working an office job who doesn't really get around to listening to much music... Nickelback is their band... Sounds crazy, but it's really true.

Sometimes it's easy for us music nerds to forget that there's a lot of people out there who really don't even like music that much.

Yeah man. I know a ton of people who don't even listen to music, and they'll still go to concerts and then talk about what a brilliant artist John Cougar Mellincamp is lol.
