I am so excited to hear new gwai. I love the new slowdive, gosh it's good. there is a lot of good doom metal out there I listen to a lot of local bands here, lots of metal and stoner and doom. the Pacific Northwest has the shit down.

actually looking at his website he seems to have like 5 releases over the last two years and probably they are all made of rambling 9 minute classical guitar loops

rambling: yes, overlong: definitely. classical guitar has been mostly replaced by *gasp* keyboards...!

for some reason I can't really comprehend, I like most of it

I'll check it out, but he's drifted so far away from what I love about his older music that his new releases are mostly just frustrating to me

it's probably not worth it. is has all ingredients of an album that usually frustrates me too but for reasons beyond my wisdom I like most of it.

I might dig it, who knows. I'll still listen to anything new he puts out. It took time but I warmed up to a lot of the songs on Perils from the Sea, and that one is all electronic IIRC.

Universal Themes I could only get through one time though and even that was a struggle

this might be worse. it was to me, on first hearing. there are a few really nice songs and a few really bad.

I like his rambling about political subjects though.

ok I'll spoil that surprise for you

When Donald Trump becomes president
Blame it on Facebook, Yelp and reality TV
And Twitter and Uber and Google and video games and every other thing that has turned this country
Into a bunch of dumbed-down slaves of technology
We wanted dumb headlines, well baby, we got it
We wanted instant gratification, right well baby, we got it
We wanted stupid entertainment, baby, we asked for it

This dumb motherfucker will be on the news every fucking day
And we willed it
He is a hundred percent full-on our creation
He is proof that we choose apps over education
He is proof of our mind-numbing Internet obsession
He's the result of our dumb-fuck-starin'-at-our-phones attention span limitations

People sittin' around hatin' on Donald Trump
We can't face it, but we asked for this junk
Not directly, but we fail to see
How our stupidity willed him into candidacy

I've actually been listening to Red House Painters stuff that I was never familiar with (I came to Kezelek through Ghosts of the Great Highway)

"San Geronimo" is an incredible song

I can't get into his newer style at all (the vocals are cringe)

Also yes to Oxbow

Not that it's a revolutionary thought or anything, but I agree with all of those lyrics.

I'm not entirely unconvinced you didn't just make all those names up.
