So it turns out Muppets don't cast reflections in mirrors
True story, folks
It's because they are living creatures without souls Any time you see one interacting with a mirror, it's a trick shot involving multiple Muppet bodies and a clear pane of glass  It's only when they're being puppeteered that you see this happen, though — an unpossessed Muppet body shows up in reflective surfaces just fine I visited the workshop and it was spooky watching a Muppeteer place her hand in a Muppet as they both faded out of the mirror Okay, thanks |

That's actually a common trick in all sorts of live-action, not just with puppetry. It can be difficult to get a shot with an actor and their mirror reflection without also getting a reflection of the camera, so a lot of the time, they actually shoot the back of some double's head and have the actor play the "mirror reflection" on the opposite side of a transparent pane.

As a child I'd say I was equally taken with Grover and Big Bird on Sesame Street, and Gonzo and Animal on the Muppet Show
But my favorite part of Muppet Family Christmas is still when Big Bird shows up, so I may have to go with him |
