I mean they were pretty obsolete to begin with but any hints of greatness are completely fulfilled by this guy

nah, slightly older 'shuggah. EP. one 22-minute song, came out between Nothing and Catch Thirty-Three. Worth a listen for the first 2 minutes alone.

Filosofem really has its moments yeah. tbh his later records that wander into darkwave territory (he stopped using guitars claiming that they were 'nigger instruments') kinda bore me a bit, but i am very curious to see what this new record will sound like. Also if somebody doesn't knock him off for being a prick very soon i'll be surprised.

From his statement about the new record:

Quote:
As You might already know, my dear ladies and gentlemen, and other individuals too, I am no friend of the modern so-called Black Metal culture. It is a tasteless, low-brow parody of Norwegian so-called Black Metal anno 1991-1992, and if it was up to me it would meet its dishonourable end as soon as possible. However, rather than abandon my own music, only because others have soiled its name by claiming to have something in common with it, I will stick to it.

The "black metallers" will probably continue to "get loaded", "get high", and in all other manners too behave like the stereotypical Negro; they will probably continue to get foreign tribal tattoos, dress, walk, talk, look and act like homosexuals, and so forth. Some of the "black metallers", their fans and accomplices will probably even continue to pretend - and actually believe - they have something in common with Burzum, but let me assure You; they don't! I play what can be described as some sort of metal music, all right, and they do too, but the similarities ends there. Freud wrote books. Tolkien wrote books. The similarities ends there.

I guess only people in this thread might care, and then not really anyway, but I interviewed HORSE the band the other day and was rather excited about that.
It was an email interview, it's not like I met them and we got down and chatted or anything.

I don't understand why people like Torche. It's the same pentatonic sludge diarrhea over and over. Total sleaze redneck metal.

I saw Black Cobra and Pelican at the Empty Bottle on Saturday. Great show. Black Cobra was impressive, entertaining and sort of hilarious.

given how mind-bogglingly great the last line-up was this doesn't surprise me.

YOB would be rad live

Meshuggah just released a live cd/dvd and I think it's probably their best yet, aside from Nothing and obZen. Rawest and heaviest and with a great song selection. Nice cover too:

You want doom? Electric Wizard, specially their "Dopesmoker" lp. Seriously, if you like Sleep, you're gonna love it. Just listen.

Elaborations is a great album and definitely gives you a good idea of what you're in for, but i've found that over time they got a lot less raw but a lot heavier thanks to more inventive use of effects. If anything get both Elaborations and The Great Cessation (their latest) to give you an idea of the spectrum of their work.

tdep is great. never seen them live. as for that electric wizard shit, i can't really get into it. reminds me of eyehategod. too sludgy. for the top 100 list that's up, glad to see opeth on there twice, they are in my opinion the best metal band in the last 10 years. also for barden, yeah i heard horse the band was touring africa, that's cool dude. i like them cuz of their NES/metal sound. video games and metal, the only way it gets better is if you add weed and pussy.

I'm listening to Disfear's 'Live The Storm'. I picked this up ages ago, spun it a few times and then forgot about it.

For a record where every song has the same drumbeat and five chords, this shit is straight-up rockin. Gang shouts ftw.
