Without a doubt, run2me
The degree of violent rage this song seems to provoke in so many here is fucken hilarious. Maybe the song isn't great, but it's not that bad. And to me it sounds like one of the few recent bill songs where he's abandoned the need to "sound like SP," which should be applauded Sure it's saccharine, sure the lyrics are cheesy, but it's catchy as shit and the synthesizers provoke fond memories of the kids movies I watched in the 80s. Specifically the beautiful intro sequence to the Neverending Story. |

run2me remains the worst sp song i have ever heard, and there's only a handful i would consider bad. nothing appealing or noteworthy about it whatsoever, and then to make things worse that garbage video for it had to come out. it really bummed me out when it was played at the in plainsong show i went to. |

suffer because it's just mellow and warm, and my favorite part of gish is that recorder solo followed by "will you wait, yes i'll wait, i will wait for you" with a crescendo (see other thread)
it doesn't seem to get referenced as much as the other gish songs |

soothe, despite being of demo quality, has an intriguing guitar line, and a vulnerable vocal. it's the embodiment of why billy's demos are so valued.

take me down
i now believe that this song is underrated because the instrumental version is quite pretty. i guess it should have been sans vocals on the album, it would suddenly be quite a great end to the dawn to dusk disk. |

once upon a time
was my favorite on adore at first... i just thought it was a great acoustic song and the arrangements really suited the album atmostphere. a somewhat dark but somewhat hopeful feeling. a nice break in between daphne descends and tear. some people don't seem to like it. |

sacred and profane + this time
i admit that these songs are kind of similar... and people's perception of what machina should be is different than mine. those are in my opinion the best examples of pop songs wrapped in the intended machina sound and production. the vocals are heartfelt and are in a style that i think suits billy better than some other songs on the album. i never much cared for wound or I of the mourning |

people, i want you to meet the man who SAVED MY THREAD. re: take me down though, i'd never heard the instrumental version. i always really digged the first chords, being all dark, jazzy and, well, dusky, but james' singing always flat out wrecked it. i'd love to hear it btw sacred+profane is a great one i hadn't thought of. i just fucking love that steady groove jimmy went for, which showcases once again what a brilliant song-serving drummer and musician he is. besides, the guitars are great and well layered, with those little melodies noodling around, and the vocals are pretty on point. i miss the good sp sometimes. |

Spangled is underrated. Probably my favorite all around song from post-reunion output. It's got everything, good lyrics, a melody that's hard to predict, a complex chord structure that sounds great, nice vintage warm sounding guitars and organ. It feels like Billy's writing was getting more mature.
Then everyone shat on all the Teargarden stuff and he gave up on that sound. Oh well. |

i always thought Lucky 13 is one of the band's most underrated songs.
just fucking perfect. those drums are among jimmy's best performances ever with the band, and the riffs and structure of the song are so out there. weird choices. plus jimmy's timeless 'im jungle drummed out, man' |

you better believe it. there is a clear line, and it is drawn twixt the final metro show and everything after it. it all makes perfect sense. everything before is sacred. everything after heresy. nice and simple.

Zwan is super underrated, but bill brought it on himself by turning an astonishingly versatile and interesting band into a tepid dayglo popjesus clueless radio friendly farce in the studio
