most underrated sp songs
i don't remember one of those being done and fuck you anyway, this board's dead.
what songs do you consider to be criminally overrated? i got the idea for this thread listening to This Time today. while i get the criticisms that people have on machina - for this particular track, that fuzzy production, pure chorused noise thing, it just works so well. it's like the perfect embodiment of that song. whenever bill would play it acoustic on the tour it sounded like sweating ballsacks flapping against each other in visceral senescentness. but in a bad way. like, bad senescentness. other notable examples of songs i consider some of SP's best work, that no one ever seems to talk about: gish - crush sd- soma lol adore - night mare, appels+oranjes appels and oranjes contantly gets a lot of shit from everybody and i can't understand why machina ii - go (probably the single most well rounded song james ever wrote. great track) |

Indeed. Consider for a moment his appallingly incorrect usage of the term "senescent." When coupled with another misapplied term ("visceral"), the two failures coalesce, melding into a synthesis of suckage.

The Crying Tree of Mercury. I really love this song. love the fuzz solo @ 2:00, makes up for all the complaints.

The weird trumpet intro turns me off the song whenever it comes on
The solo is really cool though. I've literally never heard that until just now when I skipped to 2:00 in the video |

btw ppl the idea is to fucking explain why you think a track is underrated, not just toss around song names like we all did zillions of times in the past |

lol
I have long said I think Waiting is the single most underrated SP song (and unlike many of the songs listed here, it actually is an oft-overlooked tune). I think it's an excellently balanced piece. A little bit pop, a little bit goth. Good, evocative lyrics. The hook in the chorus is absolutely killer. I've been trying to come up with a creative acoustic interpretation of this song for years but I haven't been able to do it justice. I was walking from my bus stop to work in high school and the first snow of the season started to fall and all of a sudden everything was coated, and this song was on in my headphones. Instant peak experience. I always think of this moment when that sick beat rolls at the beginning. Oh and the tinkling piano line! So good. For a long time I thought this song was a Machina outtake and I was very surprised to learn it was from the Adore sessions because the glossy smooth production and the overall feel of the song seems much more Machina to me. I always kind of thought the song itself was about a beautiful, ephemeral experience, maybe that feeling when you are with someone and you realize you are in love with them? And you take it in as deep as possible, but are waiting for that inevitable moment when it ends The only thing is that Waiting has kind of a non-outro. It feels like the song just falls off or something without any closure. Maybe this is intentional if my reading of the lyrics are sort of accurate, but it's disappointing because SP generally has really good outros |
