Thumbs up

i do believe that 3:10 must be one of jimmy's finest and most overlooked fills ever. and the lead guitar tone that follows is just magical.

i actually seem to remember that on one of his 'confessions' he said that during the recording sessions for SD jimmy and butch vig would continuously argue about 'all sorts of drum nuances that fail to reach me as im a guitar player' or something to that extent. bill was a fine songwriter but he definitely had the sheer luck to land one of the best drummers ever to really lift his songs to the next level...

New themachinesomehow blog entry >>>

Quote:
...The Pumpkins had just reunited with drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, and while there were rumors he was back with the band, the audience wasn't sure until Chamberlin sat down behind his kit and pounded out his signature intro to "I Am One."

"I'll tell you what, I've played a couple thousand shows in my life, and the sound that came out of that audience when they realized it was Jimmy on the drums was probably one of the top five moments that I've ever had on stage," says Corgan. "It was a complete joy, it was so beautiful."...

Listen to that moment >>>

ed: @ b0lly

yeah. i wonder if sp would have even been a success without jimmy.

as for butch vig, as a garbage fan i always wondered why he never really lets rip on the drums. he's been playing for probably about as long as jimmy, he's a very musical player but he's always kept his playing strictly pop oriented, i've never heard him playing anything showy or technical. i guess its not important but it would be cool to see what he can do.

Since this has morphed into a general drumming thread, I thought I'd put this out there... remember the Marked drummer, Ron Roesing? (self-proclaimed "original" drummer of SP) his projects over the years have been numerous but I always quite liked his playing on this song, Lapiz Lazuli by Suns of Neptune. It sounds like he was trying to emulate Jimmy's style somewhat, playing lots of subtle, nuanced fills around a minimalist guitar line. What do you think?

Jimmy Chamberlin's greatest contribution for the band was warming the stool for Mike Byrne

yeah so how was it that jimmy was just some weird guy in a weird car auditioning for a band with three random hippies...and somehow the three of them stumbled upon a top 5 drummer of all time.

my favorite jimmy moment is the super kick/snare play at about 2:49 in Transformer. It's short and sweet, and doesnt lose the groove.
