It really is. I've been told straight up by an insurance worker that they make it so difficult in hopes that patients just give up!

My daughter also needs a hearing regarding service denial, so I spent 2.5 hours on hold yesterday to ask why I haven't received a solid date for the hearing that I requested two months ago (she only has two more approved appointments after today) in order to be told there is no record of mail regarding the appeal or hearing!!! Mail that has an official "date received" seal that I was holding in my hand during the call. So I was advised to keep waiting for someone to contact me. Furious is too gentle a word.....

such bullshit.

she is in a new school and was asked about her skin on day one, which i'm sure is fucking embarrassing and she's already got a lot of stress due to moving to completely different surroundings. stress has a hand in skin conditions too and it's really fucking infuriating.

i've already told her, if someone asks, tell them "it's eczema, i was born with it, it's not contagious" and if they keep asking or want more info, tell them politely that they can Google it.

Anything more than that, i'll get involved because i am that parent and won't apologize for being protective of her mental well-being. it would help if parents taught their kids to be self-aware and what is/isn't polite but that's expecting entirely too much.

school can be so tough, i have to start mentally preparing for it now (mine is just 1 year old). there's ample behavior from both kids and parents that i find hard to tolerate and i'm going to need to do some serious reflecting/planning in order to prevent my daughter from becoming an outcast because of her mom. lol

that's what's up.

i wish i had gotten better advice from my mom than ''those kids won't matter when you're older" or "don't listen to them''. i mean, i'm a kid. i'm going to listen. how about you try being supportive or something or teach me how to deal with assholess in real-time?

i have to straddle a line between letting her handle her own problems and being there to help. i don't want to be over aggressive with my protection because i have a fear that she'll stop opening up to me if she thinks i'm gonna make some huge scene about everything lol

if i heard some little shit was giving my kid a hard time, i'd want to meet their parents if u know what i mean. then you have a good idea of why that kid is an asshole and go from there accordingly.

for me, personally, i never knew i had hypothyroidism until my psychiatrist checked for it. hypothyroidism can contribute to depression and lethargy, so treating it has helped my mental health A LOT.

my mom had a pretty bad thyroid when she was in her 50s, so the doctors always watched me for it.

When I started having really bad anxiety in highschool they checked my thyroid and it was wonky, so I was on medicine for a short period of time (as well as an SSRI). but being a teenager, I got annoyed with taking medication so I stopped after like 6 months.

I kept getting tested every once and a while after that and my hormones were always in the "normal" range.

Had a doctor in California finally test for the thyroid antibodies (which would mean it was an auto-immune disease) and they were positive

Had my levels tested a bunch while pregnant, always in the normal range

Going through a bunch of shit emotionally lately, developed awful panic attacks and anxiety again. I went to the doctor to get an SSRI and told her my history--she's like... hey lets check your thyroid first. Apparently when you're under a lot of stress, if you have an auto-immune disorder, it can kind of go into overdrive. Anyway, I got tested again and my levels were indeed wonky. My other symptoms were--carpal tunnel that would go away and come back again, dry skin, gaining some weight even though nothing was changing in my routine, and my hair was falling out.

I've only been on the medication a week and I don't notice anything really different. I think it takes a while to work. I have been a lot less anxious lately, though, but not sure if that's just me or the medication.
--------
In regards to treatment, I was treated by a general practice doctor. I have heard that endocrinologists are actually really conservative in treating people--like they would treat less often than a general practitioner would. My doctor described it as, if seeing someone with my lab results:

Endocrinologist would treat me 30% of the time
General Practitioner would treat me 50% of the time
Naturopath would treat me 100% of the time.

My lady decided to try me on medication because she has seen a lot of woman my age, with my symptoms, that were really helped by it. So why not?

See I've been tested a million times after I got bad results as a young teenager, too, and they're usually fine but I just know there is something off. My first endocrinologist wanted to put me on meds for life straight away but my parents decided it was a bit too drastic a decision and took me to a different doctor. The second lady figured I just wasn't eating enough and put me on a weight gain diet that seemed to fix my issues, at least at the time. I've never been tested for the antibodies, though, and it makes me wonder if I should.

I don't tend to gain weight when my thyroid is under active but do feel unreasonably fatigued, lose hair, my face goes puffy in the mornings and suffer from anxiety/mood swings every now and then.
It's shit.

There's a huge controversy on what levels are considered "normal". Any good doctor is going to treat you as a patient, and not refuse treatment because a textbook says you should be feeling okay. If you are noticing going in and out of symptoms, i would suggest getting the antibody test done because if you have an auto-immune disorder, your thyroid will go through phases as your body is attacking it. Eventually it'll give up, though. But I guess if you DO have that, then being treated with desiccated pig thyroid works well because it has a bunch of hormones in it instead of just synthetic T3.

I've done too much research lately on this

i had "sub-clinical" hypothyroidism for who knows how long, first noticed at 19 years old. didn't warrant treatment according to my GP cv but considering i was depressed as fuck and overweight, maybe it should have. since about 25 i've been on the synthetic stuff and honestly i don't feel any different on or off of it and i don't have any other symptoms from it but every few years i need it upped because my levels are too low. and i'm fatter than ever.

i also take it with morning meds instead of 30 minutes before everything because i'll forget and my doctor said that's fine i probably just am taking a bit more than i'd need to without doing that but as long as my levels are stable it's ok. and also cant take vitamins with it, so i just take them at night

Got the MRI but was unable to do the part where they inject the dye because my veins are basically ruined. (Sad sad sad) They are going to see if the pictures they got can diagnose the ear issue and go from there. If not, I need to finish the MRI in a hospital where they can ultrasound my veins first. I'm definitely crossing my fingers for straightforward ear issues that are easy to treat and that there's nothing seriously wrong with anything else!

I have a sore right hip today. It started yesterday and I don't know why. Going to take painkillers like Andy Murray.

We have two cats and are currently fostering three.

I'm allergic to cat dander.

This weekend we went out with some friends to a rented church-converted-into-guest-house and it was the first time in so long I've been able to breathe clearly, it was wonderful and I honestly forgot what it felt like.

Got back yesterday and managed four hours of sleep before I had to vacate the house for the balcony and just wound up going to work super early. I could barely breathe. I'm exhausted and my lungs feel like shit again.

I have to have a long long talk with her about how many cats we can take in at once.

This relationship is going to kill me

You missed out on feeling like you've pissed yourself.

A syringe filled with iodinated contrast would be bloody handy on a cold day, though.

Couldn't do it. We both love them too much. I know not everyone feels that same but that feels like it's as good as trading children to me.

I can't even use the toilet without Mini putting her little paws up on my knee and her wanting to say hello and be all affectionate. It's going to break my heart when she leaves. She's such a sweet kitten.

Oh, don't take me seriously, Shad. I was just kidding because I don't have a solution for you so I thought that a stupid joke that nobody will laugh at anyway would be an okay alternative comment.

I want a kitten ):

i started taking vitamin d since getting a battery of tests. the only abnormal result was the vitamin d deficiency (i guess from being in chicago, but having a body from dallas) so that was actually a little disappointing because i want to know what's causing all my shitty symptoms.

in other news i got a new facial toner:
https://media.karousell.com/media/ph...6_3e11c49e.jpg

i usually use rosewater from the indian food aisle at the grocery store cause a whole bottle is $5 and i can refill my spray bottle twice with it. i have some irregular texture on my face from hormonal zits that leave scars even if i don't touch them. that's calmed down, but some of them never completely go away.

they've altered a bit over time but mostly issues with really dry scalp and skin and annoying cystic zits with no head that hurt like fuck. i don't get those too much anymore but once in a while one will pop up around my chin or by my ear.

and for a while i had the heaviest periods i've ever had in my life which was startling because i've always been a light 3-day bleeder. the globs of dark bloody uterine lining coming out of me were no joke and regular tampons were futile.

the dry scalp was helped with a topical shampoo but the thinning i felt in my hair didn't go away. i blame all of this on the mirena iud i got. i have never been the same since getting that in and it was still inside of me when i started getting cysts for the first time.

no crazy dreams with the vitamin d, though. it's only been a week so i will keep ya posted!
