Anyone get Titanfall?
I have it for for PC. I wasn't sure of it after the first few rounds but I am hooked now. Highly addicting shooter, exceptionally fun. So nice to have an original shooting series and to finally have a new game from of the truly elite FPS developers out there.

Battlefield 4 was awful. Was one of my favorite series but EA has rode it into the ground.

I just don't get how people can play so many shooters. no matter how different the setting is it all feels like the same fucking game to me. and it seems like for a lot of "bro" types it's the only genre they play

this is from someone who grew up playing doom 2 and half life and shit but after like BATTLEFIELD 17 ELITE OP WAREFARE it's like, it's the same fucking game. every once in a while there's something like Bioshock where the environment is beautiful but it's still fucking aim and shoot.

it seems they're doing different things with the genre now... like with this and Destiny (upcoming Bungie game)
but yeah i never really got into bro shooters and it seems like a cottage industry |

pretty much uninterested in FP games that don't have magic
exception is fallout, it should have some kind of magic |

if you really want to get in the weeds, it does. with its "science" skills. Fallout's SPECIAL system is a derivative of GURPS.. which is a tabletop based skill tree
but modern fallout is a pretend FPS. not that i have any problem with that |

Titanfall breaks the mold pretty well. Really fast paced where you are always moving around band moving fast. A lot of surfing/riding g of walls and double jumping up to areas or other areas and it all feels very natural. There is also the Titans thrown in there with their own unique gameplay that add a whole different element. A lot of computer characters on the map to kill in addition to the other human players and then it actually works well. |

Game is so much fun.
This the savior of FPS for me with every other series being run into the ground. Just started playing CTF and the last time I had fun playing CTF on a PC FPS was Unreal Tournament or RTCW. A long ass time. Come to think of it the only other FPS that had good CTF in the time since was Halo. |

There have been like 3 major innovations in FPS gaming since 1993

Infinity Ward (Now basically Respawn) pretty much introduced the mass customization of classes and unlocks along with kill streak awards that you now see dominate a lot of FPS. Probably one of the biggest innovations along with BF 1942 introducing all the vehicle game play/combat intertwining with the normal FPS combat. Halo came out before it but BF was the first to do it on really a massive scale. I'd say Return To Castle Wolfenstein is responsible for different classes for people to choose from offering different specalties. |

we were talking about this on another forum.. somebody actually made a chart of the different directions the genre went in since wolfenstein 3D.. wish i could dig it up but i forget which board that was on
i think -shock and half life are sort of their own thing.. you play those for narrative moreso than shooty bang quake seemed to really set the stage for modern shooters. then the ps2/xbox era are when the "innovations" pretty much peaked.. but you can only innovate so much i guess |

I miss RTCW.
So many good memories. On PC I remember playing that and eating eggs with toast in my childhood home. So much fun. When it later came out on Xbox my buddy and I were at one point ranked the 1 & 2 players in the world in the standings but that was mostly because we had discovered a glitch that allowed us to exploit the point system. Still really good at that game regardless. That's a lost art in FPS though, the assault mode in RTCW and UT. Assault for UT was thing of fucking beauty. Clan matches were so much fun with that because each map could be mastered where if everyone worked together to hit all the shortcuts each map could be beat in less than 1 minute if the other team didn't stop you. You'd then go in a pub match and they would be played out to the full time limit or people unable to even beat it. |

i wouldn't be surprised if that was what the next game was. skyrim hit 20 million copies sold so everybody's rushing to make more open world stuff.. the new dragon age is open world. so is the new witcher.
but since mass effect is in space and you're dealing with different planets it'd be pretty tricky. unless its a buch of mini open worlds.. sort of like blackreach and the soul cairn in skyrim |

it would be complex but i think workable, mostly it would be about creating an illusion of an open world while still having limited sets on different planets
