Pinkertons great.
No love for the Blue Album? Have you ever checked out the B-sides from those eras? A lot of the B-sides are just as good (if not better) than the album tracks. |

Heh it's never been one of my faves actually.
No one else and In the Garage are probably my 2 favorite off of blue. I mean... fuck... "No one else"... How dope of a song is that? Just an A + perfect pop song with stellar guitar punch and great back up vocals. The sincerity of the pretty creepy lyrics set to the upbeat music... Just fantastic |

the sonic layering of the bright guitar interactions and the the feedback just sound so killer too. It's a little disappointing that theres none of those elements in the new track. (Guy who produced the blue album is producing their new album)

Only in Dreams has an awesome bassline.
Garage is pretty funny. It reminds me of "Garageland" by The Clash |

Cuomo actually reached out to Sharp about 5 years ago and offered him a spot back in the band, but on rhythm guitar ( I guess he didn't wanna cut the newest guy). Sharp declined. You ever hear this track Elph? |

There was a version of this track on the Angus soundtrack too, but they had fucking Rob Cavallo producing the whole soundtrack and he butchered the track. It was literally produced in a "Dookie" fashion.

I remember in 2001 or so Rivers was openly sharing demos for Maladroit with the community and asking for feedback. A few tracks were included on the album only due to the big fan love... Was pretty rad. But the album wasn't all that great, so perhaps it wasn't the best idea haha. |

My problem with Weezer is like they're almost a parody of the geeky people who listen to them.

Yeah, that's certainly what they've turned into over the years.
That wasn't always the case though. I mean, if you just took all of their 94-97 output and left it at that the whole "nerd-rock" thing wasn't really so obvious, or it at least wasn't being put across as their "gimmick"... |

Rivers nerdiness really was just an authentic part of the music once upon a time. That's what sort of made it charming... Again, going back to "no one else" it's a song about being an insecure loser who's jealous about any attention that his girlfriend would get. Yeah, he's a fucking nerd, but it was at least construed as honest.
It wasn't all, heyyyyyy Beverly Hills!!! I'm a nerdy guy, hot girls don't like me! |

haha it probably was. I dunno time seems to put a rose-colored hue on things. That forum definitely does represent a nostalgia of being totally green to the whole fucking internet thing for me though.

the blue album is just like the rest of their shit, it's just older and harder to assess critically because when most of us first heard it we didn't have the critical faculty to judge it

it's still pretty vapid though |

Cuomo did obsess about writing songs in the vein of Oasis and Green Day before the Green album, so that may have something to do with it. |

Like there's no brains or anything with Weezer, the whole thing is just this stereotype.
But still Pinkerton is good for what it is |

As much as I was disappointed with the Green Album, it still probably is their strongest album since Pinkerton.... Yet every fucking song on that album had a simple guitar solo that STRICTLY followed the verse melody. I mean come on... what is that shit?
The quality of the songwriting from any of the 2000 era albums is just a lot worse than it was during the Blue album era. I don't think it's has anything to do with some nostalgia cloud keeping people from realizing how vapid it is. |

I mean come on... This song and video is still as brilliant now as it was then Grade A pop song. Of course we've all heard it a million times so it just seems a little more vapid. Same thing with Nirvanas nevermind and a ton of SP songs. |

but fuck, I still can't help but get a Beverly Hills vibe from that new track.
I'm hoping it's just a little mission statement, explaining himself to the fans and that the rest of the records going to kick ass |
