I like the design a lot, to my eyes it's one of the best since 2000. http://i.imgur.com/SYaFkXY.jpg http://i.imgur.com/RWAxavd.jpg http://i.imgur.com/XQE4ene.jpg http://i.imgur.com/czNhYbv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SYsB5aN.jpg http://i.imgur.com/LIPYA6q.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0kgGQ48.jpg Last edited by pavementtune : 11-15-2014 at 03:30 PM. |

Do you think it has to do with there being no typography, it's just Billy's handwriting? It seems a lot more personal.

Probably. It has a somewhat polished but personal feel (due to his handwriting). I can't say I like the new Martha's music logo, not that the old one was so great, but it looks so boring now.

For example on the back cover of TFE, the text is all over the place, left column, right column, there's too much going on. The new album has the tracks centered, doesn't play around with a bunch of font colours and sizes, the background picture looks decent. It's just a nice surprise, after the teargarden theme disaster (and in general rather lousy artwork for years, including posters and shirts) I didn't expect something aesthetic. And since I'm a sucker for physical music releases, I care about album design and appreciate every release that looks nice. The music can be great, but if the album looks like shit - that's still the first impression every time I want to listen to it and hold it in my hands. |

yeah as much as it was/is hated i've always liked the zeitgeist "theme" or whatever
it's more iconic than oceania's stock "cool tower!" image, anyway but yeah that is fer sure one thing that bodes well for the album, at least from my perspective, since from the start i saw the oceania cover and figured it'd all be as lame as its cover (which, to its credit, it did kinda surpass that at least a few times on the record) but i liked MTAE's picture immediately, so, hopefully that's a signifier for the full tracks as well! |

The Zeitgeist booklet was pretty awful. The cover wasn't horrendous, but it felt dated and it didn't seem to really fit the album.
I'm indifferent to the MTAE artwork. It still has a very amateur feel but now it's a bit more polished with a personal touch (the hand writing evokes the SD spirit). |

The back of MTAE has that Pink Floyd- Meddle/MBV-loveless feel to it, as in "what the hell am I looking at, the surface of the moon?" To be honest none of SP's album covers have ever struck me as aesthetically pleasing.

i really like oceania's back cover, even if it's only a simple ocean skyline

Peter Hook also shared a photo of him with Billy. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B2gPiraIcAAGKU9.jpg Billy has been looking sad and exhausted. It's hard to believe that he's going hit the road soon for some heavy promotion rounds for MTAE. |

I wonder about that as well. There are also rumors floating around that they are going to play lolla in south america as one of the headliners. I dont know how they managed that without even having a band (besides Billy being really close with Perry). His last update mentioned that he was taking a break to work on other things. It seems like a start-stop process on DFN so far.

and they had already set songs aside for it, but then billy went ahead and wrote 8 songs in 7 days (or something like that).
sounds like they're still making it up as they go. |

I don't see how Boz can make SP work for Lollapalooza style crowds at this rate. I'm surprised he got booked.
