then again, for all I know the Japanese version could be completely different

no it's similar. only mixed different and statement is a different version. but songs like my neighbor satan, flower sun rain, and you were holding an umbrella are really poppy in comparison to their earlier stuff. but you are right, it is a progression from pink.
