Jeff must be the most patient and non confrontational guy on the planet. He has stayed on Billy’s good side for ten years.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he got a lot of abuse as a child or younger human, i.e. practice

nice! I mostly go with recommending Mezzanine as starting point, but this will do. take it for a walk, literally
once you want a playlist for Tricky and other trip hop, say so, I'll make a worst of list |

If Machina 2 was included, it would be a tough call for me...Mostly because I really love LMGTWTY and Home. But as it stands, I'd go with Gish

40oz: lo-fi production aesthetic
SD: a level of studio OCD rivaled only by Steely Dan 40oz: punk, hip hop, reggae SD: there has never been a less hip hop, punk, or reggae album in the history of the world 40oz: notable samples- bong rips and porno SD: notable samples- an orchestra and a sitar 40oz: three people playing their instruments SD: Billy playing the parts of three people 40oz: serious west coast party vibe SD: serious midwest depression vibe 40oz: cool without even trying SD: the lead single is literally about being uncool 40oz: songs about drugs and sex and having a jolly good time SD: songs about infidelity, child abuse, and wanting to kill yourself 40oz: indie label debut SD: major label breakthrough Yeah. I see what you mean man. |

Gish: more cool, enjoyable, and listenable
Machina: harder to listen to but more interesting as an intellectual curiosity We are comparing Appels + Oranjes here. |

I can't believe Byrne couldn't parlay his years as the drummer in Smashing Pumpkins into any other professional work. That fact alone speaks volumes to his performance.
Poor dude had the dream gig but simply wasn't up for the challenge. It's a well known "secret" that Byrne was a huge problem on the Oceania tour. He just wasn't able to physically handle the workload. His wrists were all fucked up and he had had a bunch of cortisone shots. It's been said that his wrists literally sounded like cement mixers. Dude must've known the writing was on the wall after that. Can't blame Billy here. He gave the kid a chance, and he just didn't prepare enough to handle the workload. |

I'm sure Byrnes time in SP is something he'll look back on with regret and tons of things he wished he'd done differently, but he was a kid for crying out loud. It was clear he was thrown to the wolves from the start.

OBVIOUSLY you'd include Machina II in this - it's completely unfair otherwise
and with that in mind: Machina |

Yes, M2 is included. But even if it wasn't, this time I'm picking Machina. There's something musically more interesting in it that draws me back to it. Highlights are obviously I Of The Mourning, Stand Inside Your Love, Wound, and for me The Sacred and Profane. So easy to get lost, in the good way. However, the lows are terrible.
