I can’t imagine this song being a grower. There’s absolutely no substance here, and I feel like I’m not gonna suddenly hear something on my 15th listen that I didn’t hear on my first

In all honestly though, I think the majority of this board is so mind warped into hating anything Billy does that if he truly did create a great song, it wouldn't get the credit here.
The general public's opinion will always be what's important. |

Now we know why Billy didn't want D'arcy to join them in the studio.
Billy: Hey D'arcy...check out my new song...it's called Solara! D'Arcy[listening]: https://j.gifs.com/9Qvln3.gif |

The general public will forget about this song in a week. Go to the SP subreddit and write about how Zeitgeist is underrated or your ideal 1 disc version of MCIS

Its bothering me that the palm muted part is a little sharp all over the place, as if its being muted too hard. The drumming is also annoying as fuck.

Flashback:
March 28, 2014 "Pretty full on day, with Howard picking at random which of the 26 STAR category songs to dive into. SOLARA was first, which went from a typical 90’s-type rocker to something that felt like it belonged." Apr 12, 2014 "Now what?” I said out loud. Back through the COUGARS we fell. I circled round ‘SOLARA.’ “Too grunge though,” I offered, a negative buzzword in these parts. “Better if it was straight, or more psych.” Singing the melody I came up with an opening figure reminiscent of ‘Heaven and Hell’ Sabbath (Go Tony). Sketched out a basic 2-part guitar demo, and with some digi-magik made the beat that made it a rocka-rolla (Go Priest). Funny what a riff can do to a spine. So ‘SOLARA’ is back with the STARS. W.P.C." September 20, 2014 "So, work: SOLARA was the hammer, and I was the sickle. And leaping into the deep waters of what is a no-brainer, gimme of a grunge song we cast off it's shell and went for the sun-worshipper who, in standing beneath the sun, feels awe, or boredom, or both; his thirst for travel unbound, he'd like to see the stars or, better yet, know them. Not sure if I'll get what I'm looking for here, or just have to write a new one, but the riff's minor to major universal magnetism is worth mining out. Only a million and One miles to go… W.P.C." September 24, 2014 "Today's work is to tackle SOLARA, once and for all; strumming downward on the mystical, pyramidic D." November 4, 2014 "SOLARA is back, just to prove it could. But TOODLE-LOO was a flameout, modern, anthemic, one-hook chorus aside. (insert Howard frown) " |

entertain the idea that many people here listen to enough music to recognize a sonic turd on the first listen and feel no need to polish it. |

Jesus Christ this is awful. With all the negative publicity surrounding the upcoming tour, Billy desperately needed a good (not even great, just good enough) song to restore a little faith. This is so uninspired. Is he seriously proud of those lyrics? The man who wrote fucking Thirty-Three.

And the general public gave up on them a long time ago, even before Netphoria.

What is gonna happen next when the new EPs / album get the same mediocre reviews all the post-Machina albums got?

Pure disappointment ... such a Krautrock song. Never thought the "comeback-track" would be so fucking forgettable.

During the first couple of seconds I thought it might be a slow version of FOL.
Well...FOL is a much better song. |

I like it on first couple of listens. It isn't a GOAT type of song obviously, but it's catchy and Billy's voice sounds great, better than it has in awhile. It's like if Zeitgeist actually had good production and better songwriting.
