i find it funny how billy will try an align himself to famous classic rockers who are not known for their work within a band -> john lennon, bowie, neil young

he is referencing their work outiside of the bands that made them famous, but yet when he is talking about his own music it is always "we did this and we did that", referring to himself as a band.

That's pretty much how all Billy interviews have made me feel for a long time. He talks a good game but it's all rhetoric and/or bullshit.

He's basically proclaimed himself as the ambassador of Gen X since at least 1998, if not sooner. And in reality he has no idea what he's talking about. It'd be great if he'd just shut the fuck up and quit concerning himself about generations (past and present) and focus on growing as a songwriter and improving his lyrical prowess, which is something he very much needs to focus his time and energy on.

I get the feeling he doesn't even believe half of what he says, like he's rehearsed it alone and wants to make it believable

"gen x had no core value" yeah no shit bolly, why are you buying into the labels put on a so called generation 20 years after the fact? No one cared about all of that, that was part of why Kurt hated the industry, because of the awful spin and narrative surrounding it.

now we can actually safely say things like grunge wasn't a genre, but Billy is hanging onto how he was different from that "aesthetic", as if everyone seriously didn't know how to play their instruments and rolled out of bed and wrote three chord songs in five minutes.
