It's better than anything he's done since 2000, but it is absolutely contrived in every sense of the word

honestly i felt like machina was an album full of pretty simple songs that bill tried to complicate afterward
songs like this time, try, stand inside your love, wound all have pretty straightforward meanings of love, sympathy, loss, etc., so considering the fact that it didn't even come out as the planned big double concept album, the contrived story element has always seemed like a big afterthought to me |

yeah, and i don't really see how anyone who had been keeping up with corgan up to that point would find anything with the adjectives "grand," "conceptual," or "multi-layered" as being forced or strained even in the slightest
a simple pop album without a single song over 4 minutes and guitar solos? now there's something that sounds like a strained, forced effort for him |

I agree. Run 2 me is really one of the most embarrassing things I've heard from Corgan. It sounds like some kind of church song or something

This is still confusing me a lot. Oceania is garbage and MTAE is pretty good.
I cannot comprehend an opposite opinion. What is happening |

I understand a knee jerk negative reaction to anti-hero. But if you don't take it too seriously (that's not always required) it's pretty good. The chorus is excellent.

Dunno, I guess I'm a pretty vocal melody oriented in my preferences. Can't think of a single strong topline on Oceania and there's quite a few on Monuments. |

Is it possible to like both? I do. I like them for all the differences that they have. I appreciate them. Are they equal to the magic of the early 90's? Of course not, but both Oceania and Monuments are better than 99% of the other crap out there. Embrace each. Find the good. Love each other. Run to Meeeeeee.......

Am i right in saying there are less god references in this new album than anything by Billy since Machina?

Well if you're trying to appeal to the younger generation the last thing you should be singing about is god. Most young people see right through that religion bullshit.

Listened to it straight thru for the first time since about Christmas.....still a decent record but Run2Me (that first "run to maaaaaaaaaaay" in the first verse is the worst thing to ever come out of Corgan's mouth) and Anti-Hero are embarrassing. Really like Tiberius, Dorian and Monuments tho.

Death From Above is still winning in the cheese synth stakes. Slightly better than ODOH and Run4Me is last

I like ODOH, it has a sweet ending and it feels genuine. Run2Me really does feel like it was written for an 80s toilet paper commercial. Death from Above and Owata are slightly better, but unlistenable.
He really needs to save his synths for his 9 hour experiments http://www.alternativenation.net/wp-...siddhartha.png |

Anaise is not a bad song. The verses are pretty shitty but if you look at it as some kind of Cars-Queen influence it becomes a bit more understandable. His singing in the chorus is actually pretty lovely.
