1992-06-09 Unicorn - New Transfer
(http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-d....php?id=630816 but with "Offer Up" removed per Dime policy)
Direct Download of the complete set, with "Offer Up" included. Link good for a week: https://we.tl/t-nL8ziAzB5Q The Smashing Pumpkins Unicorn Milwaukee, WI June 09, 1992 Unknown Audience Source* > 2nd Gen Cassettes > Nakamichi Deck w/ azimuth adjustment > Roland Quad-Capture > PC > WAV > FLAC Tracklist: 01. Intro 02. Rocket 03. Slunk 04. Disarm (earliest known performance) 05. Happy Birthday Jimmy 06. The Joker (Steve Miller) 07. Tristessa 08. Plume (earliest known performance) 09. Frail And Bedazzled (earliest known performance) 10. Drown 11. Bury Me 12. Kill Your Parents II 13. Siva 14. Luna 15. Snail 16. I Am One 17. Bullet Train To Osaka (only known performance) 18. Offer Up 19. Silverfuck *Notes: I received these tapes as "ANA-2", with no other lineage. This source is the same one usually listed as being sourced from an audience-shot video. Going by the circulating clips, I don't believe that this source is actually from that video. The video clips were shot from the side of the stage, with the sound captured up close and off-axis. Whereas, the recording here sounds like it was recorded from the back of the venue, next to the bar. In a few spots you can even hear the sound of bottles being cleared away. In any case, this version has more crowd noise before and after the show, and doesn't have noise-reduction or fades between songs like other versions do. The band captured all three Wisconsin shows (6/9 and 6/10 at Unicorn in Milwaukee, and 6/11 at Club de Wash in Madison) via soundboard. Milwaukee's Atomic Records videotaped all three shows as well, and circulated a rough mix of a few songs called "Three Days In June", which was included on Fruit Bat Salad Volume 1. Some of the soundboard songs from these shows were circulated via the Mashed Potatoes set, but nothing else has since come out. These gigs were a turning point for the band, marking the shift from the Gish period towards the Siamese Dream era. This first show at Unicorn features the earliest known performances of Disarm, Plume, and Frail and Bedazzled, and the only known performance of Bullet Train to Osaka. The band probably played some of these new songs at the Chicago (5/30) and Champaign (6/8) shows just before these gigs, but no recordings circulate for those. At this first night in Milwaukee, the band played past midnight, so included a rendition of Happy Birthday for Jimmy, in honor of his birthday on 6/10. After these gigs, the band would travel to Detroit, where Billy's favorite guitar would be stolen outside of St Andrew's Hall. He would replace that guitar with a newer model 57 Stratocaster reissue. That guitar would soon get fitted with higher gain Lace Sensor pickups and be paired with a Big Muff fuzz pedal, the combination that would provide the signature sound heard all over Siamese Dream. Of course, it would be great if the complete soundboards and videos for these shows were to finally come out. The show here is a top ten performance in the band's live history. MD5 Checksum included. |

Thanks!
How about this banter: "This here's another new song. It's called Frail and Bedazzled, and it's about being in the spotlight of your mother's love" "try to understand the ones i love and their demands it's so unfair when they can't see that i'm the boy that really needs their love (has failed)" I never realized this song was about his childhood. |

Bump to add a recent comment from the Dime thread. Confirms that this source is likely from DAT, and from the same taper as 10/22/91.
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-d....php?id=630816 "My 2 cents. I got this tape in July of 1992. I bought it at a record show in Milwaukee by a taper by the name of Paul. (He also recorded the Oct. 22, 1991 show at the Central Park Ballroom. He also got PJ and RHCP too that night.) Anyways he was a big taper back in the 80-90's. He had 3 portable DAT decks plus who knows how many mics. He claims to be the taper for this show. He had it on DAT back then. I just took a cassette copy from him. By looking at his 100's of master recordings, I believe him. I lost contact with him over the years and I think he is out of the game nowadays. Bottom line is I strongly believe Paul was the original taper. Hope this gives a little more insight on the origin of the this recording." |

Some of the radio concerts are in good quality on the official Smashing Pumpkins YouTube channel.
Should be more people listen to... In high resolution audio, better than your bootlegs! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...U6wiwy_jY3GSiU https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...ioNVWU_Og2j6TQ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...TBvYTtUuT7goxs https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...wbJJo1goe0bkQw https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...DTdDXI3MkZKGFw Last edited by Corgan's Bluff : 01-01-2019 at 01:55 PM. Great share here - can't say I've ever heard this show.
The shift from Slunk to Disarm is something else. It really is as the original poster says "OK, now we're doing something entirely different... here we go." When I listen to old shows like this, I get a weird fascination out of digging up info on the venue. Some awesome photos here: https://theflashnites.com/blog/explo...t-the-unicorn/ Looks like the address on Google Maps is showing that nowadays it's the home to a parking lot. Cool. |

For those who haven't noticed yet:
Since four months you can hear on Facebook a livestream of the first single of the Smashing Pumpkins with the original version of "I am one" and its B-side "Not worth asking" in a never heard before audio quality. https://www.facebook.com/smashingpum...4233735982998/ https://img.discogs.com/GoYBIi6FWTnB...33794.jpeg.jpg https://img.discogs.com/ikovxhgoZwE6...33802.jpeg.jpg https://img.discogs.com/vANbHkQ-A4IX...33810.jpeg.jpg https://img.discogs.com/9kp1BqaD4yP_...33817.jpeg.jpg |

not worth asking is such a good song, so much of the pre-gish tracks are. seems like we'll never see a release of most of them compiled together though.
