I wasn't aware that everyone here signed the herd contract to feel the same way about albums. I don't hate MTAE, never have, and around the time it was released not everybody here hated it, either.

There are old fans here who rank Zeitgeist higher than Adore, which is something I don't get, but there is no canon that you have to love that album, and that one, and are not allowed to like an album that is somehow "less good" to most. Are we 12 in the school yard now.

There it is. Accepting Corgan's new work as "good" would serve to degrade your group identity. Even if you like the music, you won't be inclined to admit it.

I said if even one person likes it, it's good. That's not exactly high praise, and it's not meant to be.

I don't think Billy was trying to make music is fans would hate, and the fact that he was upset by the negative reaction suggests as much, but when he's accused of being lazy, or pandering to the masses, that's what is implied. As a listener, I try to appreciate where a musician is coming from, even if I don't necessarily enjoy what they've created.

That is a bullshit theory, that somehow people here are too immature to say that they like something if they do. "Admit" it, I don't have to "admit" what music I like, it's not a crime.

I liked some of the songs on Ogilala a lot, probably more than anything Bill has done since TFE. My opinion of Z and Oceania are that they are disappointing and on the low side of mediocre, but each has a few redeemable tracks. Monuments and Teargarden are fucking unlistenable trash.

I don't know what kind of bullshit crept into your brain to make you think everyone here is secretly listening to Antihero under the covers every night, then coming to school the next day and fronting with their buds. That's so much weirder and more elaborate than the truth, which is that we mostly love the old music a lot and think that after 2000, Willy Patrick had a tremendous collapse in artistic and moral quality. It's shocking and alienating to see your favorite artist deconstruct everything you thought was ever good or cool about himself in real time. I really don't get why it's so hard for you to understand why that would breed a fan community like Netphoria

You say "Monuments and Teargarden are fucking unlistenable trash", I'm certain the reason you don't preface that statement with "in my opinion" is because you're speaking from the in-group you identify with that believes this to be true, not your true opinion, and the reason you're so forcefully rebuking my assertion that you secretly love it is specifically because that serves to challenge your loyalty to the in-group. I think that if I wasn't hitting a some sort of sore spot you'd not be bringing this particular point up over and over again.

It’s no different than the in-group on sad machines that you identify with that thinks the sun shines out of Bills arse. Why are you allowed to have your view but we’re not? Why does it need to be justified to you?

What the fuck does he think is going on here? Netphoria has a secret fetish with this one specific album and we aren't allowed to break character? So it makes sense that I can say I like some songs on all the other albums considered bad, but disliking this one album has some kind of coded meaning? Seriously, what in the fuck kind of delusional shit is this

I don't see a reason to discuss music that happened twenty years ago. If there is a thread about a deluxe remaster re-release, sure, but otherwise I'd think it would make more sense to join the forum of a band that is actively making music you enjoy.
You are a dumb piece of shit and your username shows it. You know nothing about this board if you think it's a Smashing Pumpkins board.
Some of us have been here for twenty years. TWENTY. The amount of history here dwarfs the actual music.

I remember when the goatse link would crash your computer by multiplying the more you tried to click out of it so you'd have to hard shut your computer off. I'm getting sweaty palma thinking about how I narrowly escaped mt parents seeing it.
