Rock is a performance art. It is meant to be experienced live and both watched and heard

the image is not the thing tho

you are talking about band image versus fan image or perceived image

what are you talking about?

I do not care about fan image.

I do care about the image a band chooses, because it is part of their art.

I try not to care abut the image and definitely try not to care about who makes the music, i mean what kind of people they are. Because often, finding out can kinda ruin it a little. I mean I want to separate the art from people and i do to a certain extent but only so much. The truth though is a lot of times image will tell you a lot about the music. Or the attitude anyway.

It's actually baffling me that this is a conversation that's happening.

Artists dress a certain way when they go on stage. They become their Art.

It's baffling to me that you can't see that concerning yourself with a bands appearance detracts from the scope of music you enjoy for superficial reasons, which only serves to detract from your own enjoyment of music.

Pearl Jam started out sounding like slightly more credible hair metal. Then they turned into boring dad rock. Elph is right on that point. But Soundgarden had the most inventive guitar riffs and rhythms of all those grunge bands.

Yeah I meant Soundgarden

Pearl Jam on the other hand have been making the same boring album for years. It's disappointing.

So you actually thought Billy was his ridiculous silver pants, Iha glammed out like a hair-metal artist and Jimmy with his Bowl hair-cut was a cool image?

The only one who looked awesome was D'arcy.

I thought the Pumpkins MCIS image overall was lame as hell, but it doesn't really matter because the music was great.

what upsets me is that when people think of the 2010s they're going to think of Death Grips and not Coheed and Cambria. UGH.
