This is really good dude. Not hot on the peanut-butter-sandwich snare drum or the sorta-weary vocals (oh wait no the harmony just kicked in! Much better!) but I love the noisy incessant guitar stuff and the tone selection. Sounds like it could benefit from a serious master but all the elements are there. Good work.

Thanks Johnny!

Yeah, not mastered at all yet. It's weird-- we finished recording it on Sunday, mixed it on Monday, put it out there on Tuesday. What a world we live in where one can do it this fast!

This is an older jam we finally got around to lazy-recording. kinda the last song written in our more pumpkins-y era.

i'm finding that really hard to listen to – was it deliberately over-compressed during mastering or something? the dynamic yo-yoing between beats. creates kind of a motion sickness effect

you don't like the 65bpm slow head bang/hair sway? that's what we do.

the mastering was done specifically with very little compression.
what you're hearing is just amp compression/distortion. that's what the decay on cranked orange and hiwatt stacks sound like when you're pounding slow chords! It's probably not compressed enough & the amp dynamics are what you're not used to.

oh, don't get me wrong, i wasn't commenting on the music. just the physical sensation i experienced listening to it through headphones. could just be me.

i'll give it a listen through a pair of speakers when i get the chance

totally different through my desktop speakers – very cool. 'northfield' is awesome. dunno what was going on when i listened the first time, because i'm not hearing that crazy compression at all now. everything is balanced and well-defined. presumably something at my end

ive had some downtime in the studio lately and have gone through a lot of old hard drives looking at past session. I found some stuff from a band I worked with over 10 years ago. Their 'album' was recorded and they wanted me to mix it. I brought up a bunch of problems and overall shit of the sound and ended up not mixing at all. Later they rerecorded, recorded again, replaced the drummer's tracks, added different guitarists...it's still not finished.

ANYWAY
i mixed a few today. They were convinced their original mixes were good enough for release.

their original mix:

my new mix:

i've listened to indie albums with the sound quality of #1 but i still like it better when they get some moneys and have a professional do it

Well well well i looks like the Awkward Bodies album is finally done and available for you to download...
http://awkwardbodies.bandcamp.com/album/get-left

It's kind of a shoegaze/noise-pop/dream-punk album, with loud guitars and some vocal harmonies and shit like that.

I suppose it kinda references Siamese Dream in a way, that sort of thing. So if you dig that or stuff like My Bloody Valentine or Ride or Catherine Wheel (the band not the Netphorian) then maybe give it a try whydon'tchya?
