Default Do people seriously like The Future Embrace or is that a joke?

It has always seemed like people here actually like that album. That album is god awful. Zeitgeist is a better album. Mary Star of the Sea was a better album. TFE was awful. Better than Teargarden but still pretty bad. I don't understand why people here try and put it on a pedestal as some quality album.

It's relative goodness is balanced out by some of the godawful atrocities on it.

I don't think I'd call anything an atrocity.
Definitely a more worthwhile endeavor than Zeitgeist. Much better production and some moments of beauty.

I actually just listened to this a few hours ago all the way through, for the first time in over a year. Better than Zeitgeist and MSOTS. I'm Ready and Pretty Pretty Star are real clunkers, but everything else ranges from acceptable to amazing. There are a few flooring tracks on it. Walking Shade, DIA, A100, Mina Loy... damn

check out how he actually produces his vocals on this track. Afterwords he would go on to the flat, dry, nearly unlistenable vocal style found on zeitgeist and teargarden.

If I could only choose one I'd probably have to take MSotS. About 2/3 of that album can be pretty good if you're in the mood, and Jesus/MSotS is one of the best things Corgan's ever done. But y'know we have both so fuck hypotheticals.

All things change really is an amazingly written shoegazy song. Pretty awesome chord progressions and melodies if you break it down and know about music. Vocals could be produced better for the main refrain and outro (although they're good in the "you must...be there" thing) and the "we can change the world" is a little on the nose. But goddamn I love the instrumental breakdown right before it.

A song like A100 is decent but probably would have been better if he'd done in in 1997 during his Batman phase.

its a good album. it's not the kind of record you listen to twice a day on your iPod or in your car as back round noise.

Since Zwan it's probably been one of the only periods where billy took a real artistic risk and went as far as he could with it. The videos that were made along with it are interesting too.

I think it's one thing to say that you don't like it. And it's another thing to say that it's bad art or poor quality music.

i listene to TFE for the first time since 2005 few months ago and i have to say it's pretty good. like, surprisingly good. songwriting is decent and the overall sound is pretty imaginative, although i can see why people who mainly listen to guitar music may feel alienated.

anyway, did same with zwan and although it's a bore, it's pretty ok too. checked JC complex as well and it bored me to no end. one day i'll check zeitgeist again as well (haven't touch it since 2007), i'll keep you posted.

It's a decent effort. Still wish he had released the Chicago songs instead of jumping ship and recording it, but overall I don't resent it. It's a lot better than ZG.

I like Now (And Then). I particularly like it on acoustic. I think I heard it during some radio interview and it sounded pretty good.

All of his songs are good on acoustic. It's in the studio that he butchers them

I agree that, other than To Love Somebody, the album is subtle and groovy. He slipped some pretty bad-ass riffs in there. I would argue that it might represent the only time Billy Corgan actually enjoyed making an album and didn't worry about it too much. Like he said, all the guitar on the album is single-track, one-take. The loose feel is evident and sometimes very evocative.

A100 is my favorite because it moves so well, but almost every song remains listenable.

i like how most of the album's sound does a perfect balancing act of sounding "big" while having everything spaced out just right. it rarely gets muddy

imo this is the natural evolution from the adore/machina era. hoping oceania carries the mantle but im definitely not holding my breath
