it's amazing how you were able to come to that conclusion based on one incredibly uninformative "review".

the fact that the review seemed neutral is a positive thing. since the review wasn't totally negative we can deduce that the album is at the very least tolerable to hear.

Nah, you're right, most reviewers are blissfully ignorant prigs.

The fact he didn't crap all over it is a really good sign as music press seem to love to crap all over Billy since Mellon Collie. This review kind of makes it sound like a good old traditional Pumpkins album as I was starting to worry it was going to be heavy for the sake of being heavy.

it is a bad sign that every song is so short... except "United States"

this looks bad... this smells like another Machina... short songs and only one long experimental...

whatever...

I JUST HOPE THE SONGS HAVE CHARACTER...

Yeah, I didn't like the Zwan voice. I miss the Siamese Dream/MCIS/Adore style vocals.

By my calculations, Machina, Adore, and Siamese Dream had the longest songs on average. Zeitgeist's average song length puts it about on par with MCIS. Having short songs may be a bad thing on Zeitgeist, but it won't be because it reminds anyone of Machina. I don't think you'd find many people who'd say the problem with Machina is that the songs weren't long enough.

your attempt to make this thread a better read is admirable but it also reminds me of the saying "to polish a turd is hardly worth it". that old famous saying.

Tracks #1 thru #7 are all aggresive, up-tempo guitar rock except for #4, "That's The Way", which is our guess for 1st single as it's the most "pop" track with a catchy verse and chorus.
and this guy doesn't mention any of them as "key tracks"? this guy is obviously not into the heavy, sggressive stuff. he completely glazes over it. but he still appears to have an overall positive outlooke. good to see.

sounds like Thats They Way could be the happy "untitled" or "1979" of this album.

Quote:
The last two tracks are the only ones which are keyboard driven, with "Pomp And Circumstance" sporting timpani drums, choir-like vocals and squelching guitar.
look how he says "the only ones which are keyboard driven" as if its a bad thing and there should be more. i smell an adore fan who just had his nuts kicked into his throat.

Quote:
Corgan's signature guitar tone is still as rich and forceful as it ever was.
terry date baby. perfect compliment to BC's guitar playing.

Quote:
As we have seen with the new lineup, Corgan's voice is what (supposedly) defines the Smashing Pumpkins as a band. But, much like in Zwan, here it seems that his natural angst is somewhat artificial and his screaming seems mellow in comparison the Pumpkins of the past.
interesting, does this mean more restraint...or just perhaps pulled back a little from the way flood layered the vocals with MCIS and such...

Quote:
With the recent commercial success of new bands like Silversun Pickups, it's uncertain whether or not the those outside the core SP fanbase will feel the need to reacquaint themselves with Smashing Pumpkins.
um, i like silversun pickups but they wouldn;t exist if it weren;t for SP and they are hardly a substitute or replacement for them. if anything it means people are willing to accept something along those lines and are ready and willing to be pummeled by BC and JC.

why do you think everyone mentions SP when they hear them? and i say this with the utmost respect to Silversun Pickups... ITS BECAUSE THEY GIVE US A TASTE OF THE THINGS BC AN JC USED TO DO. Well, here it come with machine gun fills and thunder drums and the fucking true master of alternative rock. i cannot fucking wait.

Evidence:

The reviewer is a lousy, negative critic who knows fuckall about SP's discog.
doesn't give 5 pence about the band
can't knock the album regardless

I like these odds
