It's good at times. I still prefer the new Purity Ring. I think both Purity Ring albums are better than both Chvrches albums.

Exploding Boy you should check out Purity Ring if you want to hear a less corny version of Chvrches.

the first song i listened earlier to was ok (from the second album) and the chorus was chvrchesy but the other songs, i don't know. The voice is very similar though, in the exact same range. id' want to like them more cause canadian but eh. I might give a shot to the whole second album still.

The second album is pretty good. Not as good as their first one Shrines. That one is a classic. Stranger Than Earth is by far the best song on the second album.

The new Editors album is really good. This has become my favorite song of the year.

i mean i'm trying really hard to re-appreciate new music with lyrics, but i don't know what i'm looking for.

i liked the new ilyas ahmed record and i liked the tara jane o'neil (half of it was wordless though) from last year but that's about it.

any reason why you want to find something new with lyrics you can enjoy?
or is it not the lyrics but a new good voice you hope to find?

I still come across voices I find great, but lyrics - they matter less and less to me. Currently I get more out of any sax instrumental jazz album or electronical wanking than of most of the albums with vocals I have.

sometimes the things i listen to at home don't really translate well at work. out of maybe 40 albums on my phone, only 5 of them have any semblance of vocals.

yes mostly a voice that doesn't overpower the music. i don't like feeling like a song is too narrative (A to B). i heard the new kurt vile is good. maybe i'll give that a shot. i liked "smoke rings for my halo" when it was released, but he kind of turned into a knob.

I have listened to Kurt Vile and War on Drugs and it's enjoyable enough, but I don't get the pitchfork jerk off fest.

are you talking about two different albums or do I lack coffee to follow this convo?

Oneothrix Garden of Delete release date is November (haven't seen an actual album leak anywhere), while Low came out about 3 weeks ago.

edit: I stand corrected - whatever mixes those are, it's Garden of Delete.

my 2015 list is much shorter than sj's, some albums I loved at first didn't make it for long (= don't feel like listening again only half a year later.) finally got Drenge - Undertow, maybe that one will be to my liking.

might as well cut it down to top 7 already

1. Björk - Vulnicura
2. Marriages - Salome
3. TWIAB - Harmlessness
4. Max Richter - Sleep
5. BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah - Sour Soul
6. Sleater Kinney - No Cities to Love
7. Modest Mouse - Strangers to Ourselves

honorable mention: Young Fathers, Swervedriver, Alabama Shakes

I want to get Chelsea Wolfe on this list but that would be cheating, I don't like her latest album that much.

re: opn

i know i'm in the vast minority but i wasn't feeling r+7 that much. i'm not expecting much out of the new one after hearing the single "i bite through it" either.

to my ears its too much random midi/sample triggering like some guy jamming random buttons on a beat sampler. not a huge fan of e-plunderphonics. the sounds are too "collaged" as opposed to "composed" imho. i don't like the schizophrenic nature of it. i understand that artists need to evolve but i'm old fashioned and prefer his older material over the new stuff.

all the kaoss edge dark web stuff reminds me too much of an ARG marketing campaign (thank nin) and it seems heavily ferraro-influenced as well when he (ferraro) completely switched his game up and tried to become a real superstar.

i guess 7 years is a long time for an artist to stay consistent in this day and age. at least he's making some money now and is not afraid to do it. nothing wrong with that. i'm certainly not slagging on the guy for musical evolution i just hate not feeling new albums from people i've been long-time supporters of.

is there a site with a decent "best albums of 2015" list anywhere?

I looked at two so far, and mehmehmeh. a ranking that starts off with Tame Impala on 1 and Jamie xx is so not for me. but I'm lazy and want a list of the good albums I missed.

ha, the ranking gave the site away, didn't it. NME is even worse.

thanks, I'll try tinymixtapes.

edit: that site is a rabbit hole to my liking. there goes Saturday morning.

heh yeah pitchfork bias can be seen from space. if you do a search for "tinymixtapes best of 2015" you can find another site that ranks best by ratings. its a great site, i always find something i havent heard which is a feat.
